will.s 0 Posted August 30, 2010 right... well basically i was on the m5 going around 60/70 mph in 5 gear, all of a sudden i feel a loss in the power/smoothness of the engine.... i went to accelerate to see it was just me getting paranoid and i wasnt!! the car was making big vibrations on acceleration, and a strong smell of exhaust, in idle the engine sounds fine but wen i go to accelerate it sounds like an old american V8 truck :/ what could it be? also the oil is fine, water is fine, oil temp: 96 thanks will
dannyboy 0 Posted August 30, 2010 sounds like your exhaust has broken somewhere, maybe downpipe? get under, grab the exhaust, give it a wiggle!
will.s 0 Posted August 30, 2010 cheers for that would that hinder the engine power alot though? thought it may be the cat? thanks will
dannyboy 0 Posted August 30, 2010 could be,not sure where, youll have to look mate! It will cause your engine to run rough and use more fuel(if break is before O2 sensor it will detect too much oxygen and dump more fuel in to protect engine)
coullstar 0 Posted August 30, 2010 Try lambda probe after checking the exhaust. Also check the usual HT leads and plugs to see there ok. Ive had a few lambda issues recently often it only showing up when at cruising speed on the motorway. Basically it was overfuelling and causing the car to stutter from 70-85mph. tandino 0 Posted August 30, 2010 Sounds like coilpack to me.
will.s 0 Posted August 30, 2010 know of anywhere to get cheap coilpack?
tandino 0 Posted August 30, 2010 Check the coilpack for cracks around the pladtic housing first, if it has then you might be able to see it arcing in the dark especially when placing the ignition system under more load, ie wait until the oil has warmed up and a quick full throttle stab from idle should do it..
