Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 21, 2011 I hate car wiring! It's been sunny all day, which means it's gonna be a cold one tonight! Neil's just pretending to be annoyed and upset by all this, but he's loving it really
Supercharged 2 Posted January 22, 2011 Any progress guys?
Mawrick 0 Posted January 22, 2011 Good to see your back behind the C wheel :) (Happens to most of the "leavers" it seems.....lol....;) ) (but then again you knew it ;) ) Nice motor :)
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 22, 2011 Yeah alarm bypassed and it started up fine but you were right about the Alternator, well, it's not fecked, it's just not charging the batt because the clocks aren't working, therefore not sending the exciter pulse to the alternator (batt light). Alarm was defo knackered though mate. Neil's hunting down some new clocks in case his are blown.
Pat_McCrotch 0 Posted January 22, 2011 Well the alarm was indeed fooked. But so is the instrument cluster :(. Off to Luton in about 5 minutes to fetch. New one.
Yandards 0 Posted January 22, 2011 Good to see it's getting sorted quickly Neil. Lucky Luton have one on the shelf.
Pat_McCrotch 0 Posted January 22, 2011 Instrument Cluster hasn't resolved the issue :( The problem is, because the check lights aren't coming on the alternator isn't kicking in to charge the battery. Therefore if you stall it you're screwed :? Going to probably risk the drive to Kev's where we can spend time in the garage in warmth/light etc looking at it. It's bound to be something stupid like a hidden fuse or wire, any ideas people? To confirm; what works in the instrument cluster is as follows; - Green Back lighting - Mileage, time. - Blue full beam light (although it comes on without the key in ignition?? What doesn't work; - MFA - Fuel Guage - Temp Guage - Speedo - Rev Counter - All other bulbs at the bottom of dash. The blue/white wire is currently not connected (no radio in it currently and even if it was I think this only does the spoiler? Ignition switch also ruled out as the new one makes no difference. The instrument cluster itself has been 99.9% ruled out (the chances of buying another fecked one are slim.) and even google throws up nothing :(
Pat_McCrotch 0 Posted January 22, 2011 OK, this thread might point us in the right direction. Seems there could still be an issue between the ignition switch and dash? http://www.vwforum.com/forums/f14/instr ... king-44567

Jim Bowen 1 Posted January 22, 2011 Just looking through my manual about the blue/white wire and its says "as of 1991 the Vehicle speed sensor (VSS) -G54 circuit is supplied to radio connector via a blue/white wire." "to avoid problems in engine management system DO NOT splice any wires into this circuit or connect it to any component (for example, aftermarket radios)"
Pat_McCrotch 0 Posted January 22, 2011 Does fuse location 21 do anything other than radio? This fuse is currently unoccupied because the radio wiring hasn't been finished up yet.
RW1 0 Posted January 22, 2011 Do you mean 21 or 22. Radio is on 22 normally??????? 10A. 21 is 15A. If you mean its 22, yes just straight to the radio, no wire breaks or tee blocks. 21 is interior lights, cigarette lighter, digital clock, rear spoiler. . Pat_McCrotch 0 Posted January 22, 2011 Sorry, yeah 22 :)
Jim Bowen 1 Posted January 22, 2011 my diagram says no 21 is cigarette lighter, and no. 22 is the radio, but also serves an alarm system control module and the alarm switch for the bonnet
8vMatt 1 Posted January 22, 2011 Hi Neil, really sorry to read you're having troubles already with it :pale: We have taken the dash out of the breaker, its a 2.0 16v. I'm wondering if there is any wiring or ignition that could help you out mate? Hope it works out good.
RW1 0 Posted January 22, 2011 but also serves an alarm system control module and the alarm switch for the bonnet Thats the VW factory fitted alarm. Not fitted to UK models ;) .

I'm wondering if there is any wiring or ignition that could help you out mate? Hope it works out good. Thing is mate 99% of Corrados have had Aftermarket alarms fitted. It's probably just as bad as mine :( Dropped the car off to Haywire Electricals today so hopefully with the information gathered it should be back to normal soon :) shame there's no 8vs for sale as I could do with one as a runner right now :D
