G60 Fueling Problems

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a G60 Corrado which is causing my no end of grief.

Its bascially overfueling massively, If i leave the car to idle after 10 minutes it 'soots' up the plugs and cuts out, once i clean them

up and refit them it runs fine for another 10 minutes. Ive been told i need a certain bosch plug as i currently have standard GTI plugs . Could this be the cause?

The car has had some some work done with a well know G60 specialists and they seemed to fix the problem, i drove the car back 40 miles and it didnt

miss a beat.

They fitted a new Coil, a few vacuum hoses and found some earths to be poor. Ive also fitted a new ECU relay and blue temp sender.

It just seems a really strange problem as the car drove home fine, it doesnt like idling, then it soots up starts running on 2 or 3 and smokes badly from the exhaust.

Anybody got suggestions or could plugs be a problem.

Adam

Plugs are wrong, they should be Bosch W6 DPO as standard.

It sounds like a faulty ECU or Lambda probe / wiring (near the rear engine mount bracket)...

Digifant ECU's fail when bad engine earths cause the ECU to become the shortest route - then blows the injector drivers

you say new ecu...assuming it was a used part have you opened it to see if it had been chipped ?

also theres a few differant injectors used amongst g60s , so you might have the wrong chip for your car

Hi everyone.

I am now sorting the problem out on this car. It has had a new lambda probe and I have tried another ECU on and this did not sure it. I have checked voltage at the fuel rail (13.8V) and this is well within tolerance. I have also put another blue temp sender on just to be sure.

Basically the car runs spot on until it gets warm and then within an instant it just start overfueling massively. I have had it on the emissions machine and it takes about 4-5 seconds to go from running perfectly to off the scale. The car is running red top injectors and the chip is a bbm chip to suit the bbm charger, red top injectors and uprated camshaft.

Two other observations with the car are that it will not idle withe the blue tem sender disconnected. Not sure if it is linked or whether it could be the faulty idle microswitch on the throttle body. And also disconnected the knock sensor and this has slightly improved the car but is still reading high on the emissions.

Any help would be greatly received a d if anymore infro is required please ask and can get back to you asap.

Other than any hoses leaking, problems with idling fuelling suggest 1) ISV (probe and wiring - wires often go brittle and break given close proximity to the head), 2) lambda probe - check the wiring to and from as well as replacing the probe, you should be getting a signal flip flopping between 0 and 1 V once or twice a second on idle when warm, 3) CO pot - wrong resistance when warm will cause it to run rich or lean at idle, 4) blue temp sensor, 5) idle screw on back of throttle body. If it is working proeprly the almbda should be able to correct for minor fuelling issues when warm, which is why I'd be leaning towards the wiring for the lambda as you've already changed the probe itself. Also CO pot needs setting up when the chip gets changed, so has that been done?

This has probably been checked already but I thought I would mention it anyway.

On the back of the throttle body there are 2 vacuum hoses (see attached), 1 connects to the ECU and the the other to the carbon cannister control valve (or if it is removed is normally blanked). If these two hoses are connected the wrong way around you will experience this type of running from the engine.

Hi. Managed to sort the problem out on the G60. Found the signal wire broken on the loom side of the engine wiring loom. Repaired and set up and all is spot on now. Thanks Joe
