Roger Blassberg 0 Posted July 4, 2011 Anyone know the size of the socket needed to undo the radiator temperature switch? Best wishes RB
davidwort 0 Posted July 4, 2011 ruler? :) it's 32mm I think, but I've always used an adjustable spanner as I can't justify a deep 32mm socket only for that.
Roger Blassberg 0 Posted July 4, 2011 Thanks David. It's just that it seems as though the hexagon is rather shallow and close to the face of the radiator. (You are quite right of course about "Being a Boy Scout", about this and measuring it myself). Best wishes RB
bristolbaron 10 Posted July 4, 2011 its size: massive. get a pair of adjustables on there..
Roger Blassberg 0 Posted July 5, 2011 To put this to bed, it's 29mm. And not at all tightly done up (which should have been obvious to me if I had thought about it - screwed as it is into a very flimsy radiator shell). All is well again for the princely sum of £12. davidwort 0 Posted July 5, 2011 I knew it wasn't worth buying the socket  , what on earth else is 29mm??
Roger Blassberg 0 Posted July 6, 2011 Don't know, I used a borrowed 30mm socket which was fine for the minimal torque needed. Best wishes RB
Supercharged 2 Posted July 10, 2011 It's an imperial size - think plumbing! 1" 1/8th IIRC All the oil filter housing and sensor fittings on VW's are also imperial

If it doesn't come with a fibre washer fitted, then N 043 808 3 should do the trick. .
