GrahamU 5 Posted July 26, 2015 (edited) Picked these up this weekend from the local powder coater Rear axle, front arms and petrol straps Then spent saturday fixing this Then today fitted a couple of bushes and built the rear shocks/springs after giving the koni adjustables a quick blow over, not alot I know but the F1 was on Edited July 26, 2015 by rado20vT
GrahamU 5 Posted August 23, 2015 Been a few weeks since I had a chance to work on the car but got a chance this weekend. So fitted the suspension front and rear Then started on putting the wiring back in, I'm re-routing some of the cable runs so started preparing the cable by putting a twist in it and using lacing tape to hold the twist, will be more flexable this way rather than the standard harder to bend OEM cable. Will cover when I have it all in place. Was going to use heatshrink but may just use a wrap for these in car runs
GrahamU 5 Posted August 31, 2015 Well, almost finished the cable, have it run and twisted the length of the car, took a little longer than I thought to twist it, just need to cover it now then start on the next one. Went back to underneath the car and removed the fuel pump, luckily didn't find anything unexpected The usual broken rubber posts and bits held on with cable ties None of the plastic where the posts bolt onto are broken which was a pleasant surprise, I now need to remove whats left of the post Guess it will be carefully with the hacksaw rather than with the grinder, not sure the sparks would mix well with the fumes :)
GrahamU 5 Posted September 3, 2015 Bit more work on the first of my harnesses, this one being the rear lights, tailgate, handbrake and a couple of wires for the alarm Cable twisted and wrapped with kevlar Some DR25 thin wall heatshrink over the cable Then the first of the transitions shrunk down over the junction Now I know what transitions I need, I'll get some more and fit them tomorrow. Bit OTT for something hidden by the carpet but not to worry, I like it
GrahamU 5 Posted September 5, 2015 Transitions all fitted, just the final terminations to remake now so it will have all new contacts, but I'll do that on the car Next the central locking and window harness
mic_VR 3 Posted September 5, 2015 Nice work. I hate wiring. Going to be over your way next weekend if you're about for a cuppa. I'll try to be in the rado.
GrahamU 5 Posted September 7, 2015 Sounds good, let me know when
GrahamU 5 Posted September 14, 2015 (edited) Fuel tank is now clean and back on the car with the powder coated straps. Bad pic i know The fuel pump has been cleaned, brackets painted and is ready to go back together when I get another rubber stand (having lost one) The harness for the rear lights is in and new terminals fitted for the lights and fuel pump Now I need to decide which lights to use. Get the originals smoothed and lacquered or the fit red and clear lenses I've also stripped the doors down ready to be rubbed down and sprayed, it would seem the passenger door is not original and has been sprayed before which also meant the window scraper came off easiliy, and the drivers came off OK with only a slight kink which I hope I can straighten, happy days :) Edited September 14, 2015 by rado20vT
GrahamU 5 Posted September 15, 2015 Bought 4 slightly larger rubber mounts today, only £2 each Then re-assembled the pump Just need to clean these up now and put it back on
Pat. 10 Posted September 15, 2015 Looks good! How're you getting on with the other panels? What mask did you use out of curiosity? Looking into buying an air fed one but apparently there are disposable ones you can buy for use with 2k etc
GrahamU 5 Posted September 15, 2015 Thanks, the other panels will be sprayed soon I hope, time allowing. I got a twin filter mask of ebay, I did think about an air fed mask but decided I dont do enough to need one
Pat. 10 Posted September 15, 2015 Good stuff! Awesome that's what I was hoping to hear, air fed is alot of expense for only a few uses- will look into the ones you used then :) Did you find much rust on the sills or anything?
GrahamU 5 Posted September 16, 2015 Only real rust was at the front of both sills where the wing bolted to it and round the screen, the rest has been clean, I've been lucky I think and got a good one
GrahamU 5 Posted September 23, 2015 putting some parts back together Put back the central locking pump then cleaned and fitted the pipe front to rear. Started with modifying one of the holes above the clutch pedal to accept a switch so the ECU will know if the pedal has been pushed Also removed the rear glass from the tailgate ready to have the wiper hole welded and then sprayed And finally today, we had a clear out at work and I got given this :) Should be a little warmer through winter now
SR_Neale 10 Posted September 25, 2015 Good stuff! Awesome that's what I was hoping to hear, air fed is alot of expense for only a few uses- will look into the ones you used then :) Did you find much rust on the sills or anything? I'm not gonna say that twin filter masks don't work but they don't protect your eyes and 2k in the eyes is as bad as in your lungs plus once out of the packet the life of a mask is limited where as air fed will last years. Plus remember for the money to protect yourself from the arsnic based paint it has got to be worth the money. You can't buy new lungs or eyes on ebay. GrahamU 5 Posted January 31, 2016 Today had its first, but hopefully not last, photoshoot. It was for a student project to get pics of cars under restoration in their native environment, so mine was in the garage. And whilst waiting for Neil to arrive I sorted the rear wiper hole Bit of filler needed though
mic_VR 3 Posted January 31, 2016 Hey mate, garage looking good! It almost made it out by the look of it.
GrahamU 5 Posted January 31, 2016 It almost made it out by the look of it. I was all ready to push it out but there is alot of lighting in there so I wasn't necessary. I may have to push it into daylight next week if its not raining, just for the sake of it
GrahamU 5 Posted April 8, 2016 (edited) Project climate controller was in full swing this week, all wiring done but then hit a bit of a wall. Having seen Sean_Jaymo's install I thought it looked quite easy Unfortunately, I soon realised there is a big difference between the early and late heater control mounts Naturally, I had the centre dash plastics from a late car in the garage but it doesn't fit in the early dash and I don't have a whole late dash :( So my plan is to cut and shut the early and late dash centres to make it all fit, this could get messy.... And today, this arrived Glass moonroof from a skoda octavia It does seem to fit well but when I slid the roof back, I found some of the plastics bent and broke, so a little work needed on that aswell Edited April 9, 2016 by rado20vT
