Tyre Recommendations and Prices

Hey all,

 

I spent a considerable amount of time at work today...,LOL 8) checking where I could get the cheapest tyres from. I have compiled a list of the best prices, but I was looking for some recommendations. I have a mate that will fit and balance them for me so that's not really an issue but wanted peoples opinions. Below is the list from five different suppliers and the prices are delivered and incl VAT.

would have to be between firestone and toyo. Hankook aren't too good and the others are more expensive.

Good list mate, I'd always pay the bit extra and get the A539's, will last a lot longer than the Toyo's!

does the 195/50/15 make up for the 185/55/15

the 185 size is such an expensive size probably due to the lack up uptake.

 

will the speedo be near enough ( in Me Invernessian accent ?) :?:

I have the avons on mine, they are good in the wet and not to bad in the dry so far, but will be changing to the toyo's I think next time.

I would say the opposite to that regarding the Avon tyres.

 

I think they are superb in the dry and pretty shocking in the wet...

Also consider the Fulda Carats, I had the toyo proxes on mine and found them to be great tyres, especially in the wet but they were just a bit too soft. You could really feel them squirming in the corners and they wore pretty quick. I replaced them with the Fuldas and they grip at least as well in the dry, no real difference in the wet but they seem more solid and dont squirm. 8)

Pretty hard wearing so far too, only downside is a lack of rim protection. :?

Interesting! I've always had A539's on my Golf 16v and I found they wore pretty quick! are the Toyo's even worse ? How long do they generally last ?

Several people I know have been thru front pairs of T1S's in as little as 6k miles, My 539's have been on the car about 9k and are only just half worn, have just swapped the fronts for the backs.

The Goodyear EAGLE F1 GS-D3 is a very good road tyre (track days kill them!), fantastic in the wet and longer lasting than the toyos.

I would say avoid the Avon ZV1's personally, in the wet, dry, 'looks like it might rain later', in fact all situations. Did they have a price for Continental Sportcontacts?, now theyr'e niiiiiiiice! .....but pricey. I'm gonna need two soon, so I can finally get those damn Avons off my car for all time.

V rated 195/50/15's @ £44 a corner from my local tyre centre.

 

Only problem with em is that because the tread pattern is so deep & wide, huge great stones keep getting jammed in the tread!

VR6 I am running the avon ZV 1's on a 205/50/15 and I think they have been good on the roads up here. but saying that they are the first set of tyres with tred on that I have had on the c since i bought it 4 months ago, I am still comparing it to my mk2 GTI. :oops:

I'm running the ZV1's as well and am happy with the performance. Have a freind with a Scooby (legacy GTB import) and he was impressed how quick I took a roundabout in the wet - and then he remembered that I wasn't 4 wheel drive so was even more impressed! :lol:

Will second you on the Fulda's..... had them on old Corrado - superb tyres and great value for money.

 

I run Yokohama AVS Sports and they are simply awesome! - £54 per tyre though.....

My secret weapon is the Bridgestone Potenza RE720. Nobody seems to know about them but they are by far the best out of that list.
