Tjninny 10 Posted April 16, 2013 Hi, I've removed both front wings, slam panel, crossmember and rad support to clean/paint and just wondered if I go one step further and remove my subframe, will the engine be ok supported by a beam across the wings? ie all the weight will be on the inner wings only. Cheers.
Sean_Jaymo 0 Posted April 16, 2013 Yeah it'll be fine. I take it you want to use one of those cross engine bay lifts?
KIPVW 0 Posted April 16, 2013 Yep did just this but left the wings in situ when i removed my vr subframe last year. Also wont do any harm to rest the engine on a few blocks too.
VAG-hag 0 Posted April 17, 2013 Kip did you not have the front X member in place though?
KIPVW 0 Posted April 17, 2013 Cant remember  I dont think so as it was all taken off to be coated so must have been off at the same time.
Jim Bowen 1 Posted April 17, 2013 I did mine with front bit in place. So still on the front mount. Then swapped and did the front with sub frame back on. ---------- Post added at 6:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 6:20 PM ---------- Also found it really easy for the beam holding the engine to slip off the wings. Which it did do a few times.
Tjninny 10 Posted April 17, 2013 Thanks for the info everybody - I think I'll play it safe and remove subframe with crossmember put back on.
