'Rado_TDI 10 Posted May 15, 2015 Then rims got some loving after I hit a pot hole God they are horrible these pretend wheels Didn't think there was much point in putting new plastic bolts back in lol Then a fluid change!
Purple Tom 0 Posted May 15, 2015 Good to see another TDi being used :-) Makes me tempted to build another one some day!
'Rado_TDI 10 Posted June 24, 2015 It was being well used, then this happened :( luckily the little ****ers were foiled by the antitheft devices :)
'Rado_TDI 10 Posted June 24, 2015 So that mean the old girl was parked up for a bit.... which meant the ongoing window leaky problem I had manifested.... Turned out somebody didn't put any sealant in when they put the screen in!!!! So then I pulled every thing out to dry and seal it all once and for all. Blasted the windscreen surround to get rid of the nasty pitted bits few places had gone though, which I have welded new steel into, before epoxying. 'Rado_TDI 10 Posted June 25, 2015 uuugh bonnet all flatted back, think that took 6-7h :bh quick jizz of epoxy mastic to protect / seal few other wee spots of previously poor prep blasted and a weird chip in the roof too troublesome little patch here- didn't really want to take the window out so sprayed that with a little sand too - not brilliant though some more rot needs a bit of patching but with the speed blasted metal rusts at I painted it for now, along with two scabby bits on the boot Wheel arches & subframe next! Should really have done this in the project section lol
'Rado_TDI 10 Posted September 22, 2015 (edited) If any admin reads this, please can you move to "members motors"? Cheers! Been plodding along ****e old VWs :( At that point I dropped the beam as I wanted to give it a little love. I've been meaning to disassemble the brakes and lube them up for ages so it sort of seemed a good time Also, after some **** nuggets changed some brake lines, the rear passenger brake wasn't working properly and I couldn't bleed it :i_dont_kn I did have the rear wheel bearings done on my last MOT..... so I guess somebody has already had the carrier bolts off, but much to my suprise I found this Kind of glad I did drop the axle as I also found this! 'Rado_TDI 10 Posted September 22, 2015 A load more warfare later Fresh powder coat all successfully removed and new bushes ruined.... Trying to remember how I installed rear bearings last time, as this time they seem much trickier lol :bh: Really must buy a Press. Very dull goings on, but the end is in sight for the Driver side arch! Been chipping away a little at a time... Both the front and the back were a bit holey in the traditional VW place Been having a bit of a head scratch about the fuel flap lock part - not very easy to get to! Couple more repair patches and that side is done When one VW lives on, another dies lol Next is the passenger arch which is much tidier, just a little rot... in the usual place Been battering on Bilt Hamber rust convertor where I can, next will be epoxy mastic, seam sealer and lots of gravitex. 'Rado_TDI 10 Posted September 22, 2015 Both arches almost welded! I feel its a significant achievement as it has felt like it has taken about 10years ! I also swapped these over, so that's another stupid but useful job done :) Anyway, some uninteresting pics of the bottom of the 'Rado of Dailyness... Epoxy mastic Nearly a litre of seam sealer :D Then a bit of gravitex Goodbye wiper
'Rado_TDI 10 Posted September 23, 2015 Few more pics now the rear bit is sort of better, been looking at the front bit. Nothing much to report... Was a little concerned about my wings rotting inside, well the lip any way - it's a bit cracked after an "emergency" baseball bat roll, plus I wanted to get the door shuts tidy (pet hate) so I bit the bullet and pulled them off only real concern is where some **** has ****ted up this with a jack :bh looks fun to fix.... 12 degree's +/- 2 dialed. was getting a bit bored with having molten steel drip on me so tackled a couple of small jobs for a break... Goodbye 02A shifter, hello, 02J - the 02A was really slack and that used to make more noise shaking about than the engine! Actually, I think that the seal in the to might have been shot judging by the crusty brown gunge.... so while that was off, switched this over I had to hack up the underneath of the car a bit to get the 02J shift tower in but it's there bar some bolts, which I didn't have. Feels awesome! So back to body work, I previously rolled my arches which went OK, except this bit which as you can see looks suspect & lumpy... so I hit the lump out.... LOL Then back to this jacking point Which I found an ideal double skinned bit on the MK4's bonnet So I haphazardly pigeon ****ted it in, god I hate welding upsidedown and a sploge of bilt hamber

Dox 23 Posted September 23, 2015 (edited) Have you fitted the pump on the left? What's wrong with the Pierberg? pump on the right? Edited September 23, 2015 by Dox
'Rado_TDI 10 Posted September 24, 2015 My TDI has a sexy clattery diesel pump up front so I dont need the feeble little fuel pump - Which unfortunately didn't work so when I got to 1/4 of a tank I'd suck air and run out of fuel heehee  The other pick up has pipes that go to the bottom of the tank with no breaks :)
fla 9 Posted September 24, 2015 fantastic work as usual and a generally entertaining thread! Your mechanical abilities are really impressive.
'Rado_TDI 10 Posted September 24, 2015 Cheers Fla, glad you enjoyed the read so far :) Porsche brakes to slow the added diseaseil weight, or insane performance upgrade, or just to look nice, depending how full of camber you think I am...:camp: More chipping away - but the stuff I've been doing barely warrants a picture... we all know those jobs.... Equal bit of MK4 bonnet fitted for rust - delete Got some P40!! all I need are some wood screws to hold in the mech and job's a good un ....the fun continues with more rot repair Blobbed in along with a new strip down the front and a nice thick blob of weld down the crease, just in case lol and bilt hamber for good measure Doors off Prep of some kind.... big thanks to whoever covered everything in silicon sealant. :cowboy: Fancy pants new door stand from some rubbish I sound behind my house.... didn't measure it very well LOL Think it may have been scaffolding, but it was so weak, would have been scary to climb Always wondered why the electric mirrors didn't work... moar "prep"
'Rado_TDI 10 Posted September 24, 2015 Liking the caddy dude. Here's another pic. It's going to be 1.8T soon, but that's another story of pain and agony

'Rado_TDI 10 Posted September 24, 2015 Mine does the same, I was hoping you swirl pot was intact but your pump faulty TBH I never actually checked, just bunged the lot out :thumbleft:

'Rado_TDI 10 Posted February 15, 2016 Lol I didn't realise I hadn't updated this in a while! So, I wanted something to regret doing, so I did this high danger manoeuvre..... plastic primer is weird.... and also reacted to **** up my hi-build which makes me sad. Annoyingly, My initial intention was to colour code my handles, but I seem to have forgotten to include them in the priming :bh Why am I doing this? I noticed that some new VWs and Audis have gloss plastics therefore in the interest of science, I'm testing the realms of fail..... Well that and my plastics are all cracked to fcuk, or covered in overspray :bh moooooooooooooooooore sanded bits, chilling in the kitchen awaiting primer tonight I hope :) De-fillered and dent bashed out in preparation for refilling and a bit of ye old nail technique could do with some more epoxy mastic.... but also some more finances to enable that :bh So hopefully that the last of the sketchy bits sorted out now - both rear windows had some bubbles - well I noticed the drivers side after it was lovingly smashed bu some little chavs last year, so I chopped them both back out to sort it out. Passenger side was alright really bit of bilt hamber and ye olde epoxy I haven't really finished the arch tidy project I was undertaking (way out of my depth here really) but I had loads of epoxy left so jizzed a bit on to slow the rot coming back 2cm less filler this time :D
'Rado_TDI 10 Posted February 15, 2016 Continuing the sleep inducing update-ness When I emptied the rubbish from the boot, I forgot that I had sort of made a board and sub box, so here's a pic of them too :D Was hoping to complete my priming during this session, but when I reached for the spare tin of hi-build, it turned out to be lacquer :cuckoo: :ignore: still got a wee bit sprayed up - I left the smallest remnant of the frigging yellow paint that I was trying to remove, and hey ho - that bit reacted :bh The slam panel looked immaculate from the top except one bubble which I poked at with a screwdriver... not good. So have pulled the panel seeing as it was only a couple of bolts and given a quick rust address, oh and of course, last time I changed the aux belt, like a moron I slipped and bent the top of the panel :( then tying to use my space effectively - some panel mounts out of some **** steel rubbish and despite having a 5 year qualification in concrete mixing, I am incredibly poor at it... 'spose that sums up most of life thought - paper vs. actual experience but hopefully they'll be strong enough for my new work/painting lamps...
'Rado_TDI 10 Posted February 15, 2016 Well its nice and light in my wee shed now - 14 6ft "daylight" tubes now sorted! Need to complete painting the walls and floor!! Dunno how much more un-exiting pics like this can get. Kept finding things that I wasn't happy with :bh Ventilation was my next project, no actually I had to refit my WC over Christmas so that put things on hold for a while
'Rado_TDI 10 Posted February 15, 2016 Actually.... then I pulled my hubs to bits Look at that, all screws and heads intact! New toy....? ahhh! glorious press! Investment in proper tools - took about 20 seconds to do each side with no damage, swearing, bashed or cut fingers. Glorious. Been talking about a press for about 10 years, wish I'd got one 10 years ago!
'Rado_TDI 10 Posted February 15, 2016 So since all that this happened; brrr ....brrrrr I did silver, blue, blue, clear, clear I used 5 litres of blue (1:1) I hope its covered, though there was a baldy bit on the bumper :( Haven't inspected the laquer - will do it when I feel brave enough My appalling attempt at prep and fat arse were the biggest problems so far :bh
