VR6 crank seal, how difficult to replace??

Evening chaps,

 

Out of interest how difficult is it to replace the crank seal??

I realise the gearbox needs to come off but is it then just a case of digging the old seal out and replace or is there more to it?

Really easy, when you buy it from VW it comes with a plastic thing to help fit it, but i lost that the 2nd time and managed quite easily without.

 

Think i used two bits of wood to gently tap it in with a hammer

Indeed. Not too much needs to come off to remove the GB, so as long as you can get the car up at a reasonable height to menouvre it out, you'll have no trouble Rog.

if yours is leaking it may have already contaminated the clutch. My brother's VR6 went in for a new seal and clutch last week after his failed.

I'm hoping it's just the sump seal but was just asking incase it's more serious.
