Sort of noob greetings!

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I collected my VR6 yesterday and can't help but grin when I even look at it...

I've come from a long line of Sciroccos, mk5 Golf GTi and new Mk3 Sciroccos (my wifes) so I'm familiar with the marque.

My Dad had a G60 some years ago which didn't run well that often, I did fix some of it's problems but it needed work really so he ended up selling it for £1000 :bonk: I was tempted to buy it off him at that price to put the engine into one of my Mk2 Sciroccos!

Oh, I also run a Scirocco Forum called Scirocco UK and have a part in the Mk3 Scirocco Forum Scirocco Owners Network, so may have seen some members cars at various shows over the last couple of years, it'd be nice to catch up with some of you in the future :)

That looks like a very nice car you have there .

Thanks. I'm loving it so far, just a few niggles to sort - sunroof, wheel geo and a couple of small bodywork bits.

May just be the angle of the phot, but is that also a spoonfed extended spoiler? Looks very nice btw! :thumbleft:

Yeah, I love the wheels. I have a set of Compomotive MOs on one of my Sciroccos so like that style of wheel anyway, another Scirocco I have has 16" Speedlines on too, shame they're all 4 stud!

The Corrado feels more planted at higher speeds I think, whereas the Scirocco is more nimble. But it's hard to compare modified cars. My VR has coilies that are pretty stiff and they really help with the higher speed change of direction even though it's a heavier car. It doesn't feel a mile off the driving experience of a mk3 Scirocco really. Obviously, the VR sounds better ;-)

Payday arrived so I've treated the VR to some new powerflex rear wishbone bushes and some new discs and pads for the front. Gone for Mintex M1144 pads as I don't think there's anything out there for better all round performance :) (And the occasional trackday)

Turns out that Camskill didn't have the M1144s in stock (6-8 weeks delivery!), so I went for Ferodo DS2500 instead. Only heard good things about them and I was a fan of the DS2000 about 15 years ago(!), so thought I'd give them a shot :)

Hey! Small world, long time and all that! My 'rocco went a few years back in favour of a B4 passat, and we got hold of a 2L 8V 'rado earlier this year. Yours is looking good!

Well, the VR threw a bit of a wobbler this week. I thought it was the "classic" immobiliser issue (engine starts and then stops after a second), but it turned out to be the electric spoiler fuse! Only noticed as the spoiler hadn't quite closed properly. Weird... After a search on here I found that it's not unheard of.
