Windscreen polishing

Recommended Posts

Afternoon chums,

My Corrado's windscreen has loads of tiny scratches on it from 18 years of wiper use, normally you can't see them but at night the little scratches show up and are worse in the rain.

I've seen similar scratches on bodywork polished out, now I realise glass is is a very different substance to bodywork paint but I was wondering if it's possible to polish out glass scratches.

Anyone know if this is possible and if anyone offers this service.

Many thanks

Rog.

It can be done Rog. I forget the name of the stuff that's generally used, but there are loads of different product to use with different methods on the market. With glass though, it's a case of rounding the sharp edges to make it less noticeable, so it'll never completely rid it of scratches. Have a look on Detailing World, some good info on there mate.

It certainly is possible to polish out very fine scratches on glass but the general rule of thumb is that if you can feel the scratch with your fingernail then it's too deep to polish out. I could give you a contact in N.Ireland OK, but I doubt if that would be of any help to you. If you have a body shop nearby it might be worth enquiring if they could point you in the right direction, that's how I got my contact. Failing that, there are lots of glass polishing kits available on e-bay if you fancy having a go yourself.

Cerium oxide is the stuff, but you have to be careful as in the wrong hands it can make things worse! Go see a pro :)

These people did a fantastic job on mine and for less than the cost of the insurance excess!. They are a long way from Plymouth but I'm sure they will be happy to give you some advice over the phone.
