Alty 10 Posted April 9, 2014 Was under the car putting a new exhaust bracket on for it to sit better and after having a good look around I noticed a couple of my drive shaft bolts were loose! I was able to undo them with my hands so I got them replaced with nice new bolts and plenty lock thread! :-D However here is a picture of the ones that came out! seanl82 23 Posted April 9, 2014 Lucky escape there! Mine were really loose too. I could remove a couple with just fingers, a handful using just light pressure, and the rest were still able to be removed with the wheels in the air. Luckily my bolts are in good order still, but I'll be using plenty of threadlock too!
Tigerfish 10 Posted April 9, 2014 The threads are well buggered on most of those. Did the new ones do up properly?
GrahamU 6 Posted April 9, 2014 They should be tightened to 45Nm if there not, they come lose. Personally, I wouldn't use threadlock on them as they are a bitch to get out normally without rounding the spline drive of the head I had an XR2 years ago that had the bolts come lose and put the CV through the side of the box
Alty 10 Posted April 10, 2014 Yeah had to replace the boot, Found a post on here about tightening to 45Nm (Got to love the information available here!) As for thread lock, I replace the bots with torque heads instead of hex and I would much rather them be a bitch to remove than fall out on me But yeah very scary to think about what could of happened CHECK your drive shaft bolts! :D
Roger Blassberg 0 Posted April 14, 2014 Are you sure that the material of your non-standard bolts is the same as the OE specification? Not all bolts are the same. Best wishes RB
