Mouser 10 Posted April 17, 2014 Hi there recently removed an old cone filter previous owner had left on and have reverted to an original airbox and K&N panel filter. It seems better on the pick up, but the noise is pretty much gone all together now. Is there a happy medium? What are my options? Exhaust systems will give off a different note. Does drilling the airbox make it much louder? Is it worth whacking on another cone and switching back to standard when I'm bored? Will a nice exhaust system help? I'm not interested in taking the suitcase off and all that as it's too loud, any suggestions you have are appreciated.
Jim 2 Posted April 17, 2014 Tapping out the snorkel on the airbox will certainly help make things a bit louder as will, as you say, am aftermarket stainless exhaust system.
g0ldf1ng3r 15 Posted April 17, 2014 Get yourself a BMC CDA - they sound very subtle & throaty at low revs & then give a cracking almighty roar when foot is down :D also, they are quiet when cruising on motorway but give a lovely burble with a blip of throttle
Portent 0 Posted April 17, 2014 I have a Milltek exhaust on mine. It does sound lovely but being the old fart I am it's too noisy for me nowadays. So rather than an exhaust my recommendation would be to increase induction noise through a BMC or finding a drilled standard airbox (please don't drill your own as unmolested ones will be rare soon). With a magnex it is quiet enough when cruising and gently accelerating but loud enough without being annoying when you floor it
Hofmiester 10 Posted April 17, 2014 (edited) I've had the just a cone filter (too loud and rough idle) then I went to standard air box (too quiet) then to BMC (great sound but pricey) then to supercharger (too loud) then I went back to standard and decided to chop the front lower section off the standard air box (it wasn't in good nick anyway and snorkel opening was cracked) and that sounds perfect to me, it is just a touch quieter than the BMC and cost nothing :) Edited April 17, 2014 by Hofmiester
