KIPVW 0 Posted April 29, 2014 Hi all. Just to ask if you can get hold of the shims that go on before the pads on the front discs. I have misplaced them somewhere and want to refit some. I ordered some new pads from vw and they didn't come with them so if anyone has a part number of they are available separately that'd be great. They are for the VR. Thanks :)
loepan 11 Posted April 30, 2014 you talking about the metal backing plates on discs? stops them sticking to the calipers? copper grease them
KIPVW 0 Posted April 30, 2014 They sit on the caliper carrier before you fit the pad. A very thin metal shim. They sell some at euro car parts but they only look wide enough for rear discs.
Jim Bowen 1 Posted April 30, 2014 Can't say i know what you mean and have done my brakes a few times now, have you got a diagram or pic?
nrc 0 Posted April 30, 2014 Kip, do you mean #7 on this diagram? http://www.partsbase.org/vw/corrado-cor-eu-1995-117-disc-brake/
delfinis38 1 Posted April 30, 2014 think kips on about number 4 here http://www.photocar.org/brake-pad-shim.html/brake-pad-shim7 the part shown is not for a corrado.. but the corrado shim is similar. it fits in the upper and lower part of the carrier... sorry kip I don't have any if your after this.... Supercharged 2 Posted April 30, 2014 Kip - those metal shims only go on the rear... The only extra bit fitted at the front is the part nrc links which clips into the caliper piston.

I've been wrong in the past but I have them on the front of my vr
Supercharged 2 Posted April 30, 2014 Hmmm - maybe they come with the original pads then... would make sense tbh as the rears have them but you always get them with the pads.
davidwort 0 Posted April 30, 2014 aren't they just anti-rattle clips?
KIPVW 0 Posted April 30, 2014 Yes it's the part number 4. They usually come with the pads but they didn't this time. I've only ever used vag pads and every set has had them included. Seems they aren't essential though so thanks for the help. I was thinking it.s to enable the pad to slide better on the carriers.
delfinis38 1 Posted April 30, 2014 aren't they just anti-rattle clips? as david says they stop the pads rattling and take a bit of slack up
