Dave W 0 Posted May 19, 2014 Getting grief from wobbly steering wheel at about 50-60mph. Car has had original wheels refurbed and new rubber. All balanced ok. New bottom arms and top mounts. Everything tight with no play or knocks. Getting really annoying now.Dont know what to look at next. Two of wheels were pretty buckled and are on back. Can you bend a front hub ???. Jon_vr6 1 Posted May 19, 2014 Had it on 4 wheel alignment?
Jon_vr6 1 Posted May 19, 2014 Usually wheel wobble points to wheel balancing though. I had problems last year and after various trips to different outfits it was finally sorted. I was told not all places get the wheel balancing machine calabrated which causes problems
Supercharged 2 Posted May 19, 2014 Likely to be an out of shape / damaged wheel or tyre is it's supposedly balanced ok...
Ray1965 10 Posted May 20, 2014 I'd go to another tyre fitting shop and have all the wheels checked for balance, before thinking about bent stuff and replacing parts that are ok.
Dox 23 Posted May 20, 2014 Looking through previous posts the car has been off road for 8 years, was it with these tyres resting on the ground?
Dave W 0 Posted May 20, 2014 All new toyos. Had full alignment done after all work done. Wheels have been balanced twice now. Would locking wheel bolts upset it ?. Might pinch front wheels of wifes Up to prove wheels ok.
Dave W 0 Posted May 22, 2014 Swapped fronts from Up. Wobble all but away. Small bit at 65 but far better. Will try balancing again somewhere else, could be old original wheels just past it. Hey ho.
Supercharged 2 Posted May 22, 2014 You might want to ask them to look at the wheels on the balancer without the tyres on - see how round / balanced they are first... What wheels are they by the way? Just wondering if you're missing spiggot rings if aftermarket alloys? If original wheels then some are now peanuts from Classic Parts so maybe worth buying a new pair / set
Dave W 0 Posted May 23, 2014 On original 1.8 16v alloys. Had them blasted and powder coated but should have checked to see how round they were first !!. Of the 5 , 3 of them pretty badly buckled/dented. Usable but will look out for new uns. Wanted to keep it original.
