Jim Bowen 1 Posted June 28, 2014 Bought a new VR6 block from Unit.15 (on ebay, sell quite a lot of genuine parts) Its a 2.8 one instead of 2.9, obviously the pistons are different. Was hoping to use my old crank, conrods, flywheel, pulley and oil pump gear etc. Have been comparing the two blocks and they both look the same apart from the bits that hold crank on and also some of the markings. Old 2.9 New 2.8 ^^^not sure if you can tell but they are different shapes. Some markings on new block, guess this is when it was made? I notice the original block has Germany etc on it, and the newer one i think it says Austria. Just hoping i haven't bought the wrong thing.
Dox 23 Posted June 28, 2014 The main bearing caps only fit the block they were machined to fit, they're line bored (or align bored), the main caps are bolted to the block before they're bored so that they're 100% perfectly round.
