fueling issue

Recommended Posts

Ok iv had my rado on the road for about month now and have pinned down my cutting out issue.

When my fuel is just above 1/4 tank and I take a sharp bend or turn it cuts out. When there is more fuel no problems.

Im sure its got somthing to do with the fuel sender thing in the tank itself.

Iv checked that there is fuel in the tank when on a 1/4 so the indicator is correct.

Im sure that there must be a crack in the sender thing in the tank.

Is this easy to change?

Anyone have any ideas?

Mine does the same with just 10L approx of fuel left in the tank, on left turns exiting a roundabout the engine goes low on fuel before recovering once on the straight again.

I can only get 40L max in the tank too (VR6 70L tank).

Its on my to do list.

Yeah sounds like the fuel pump is on it's way out.

Hope you get it sorted.

The pump shown on vw heritage website does not mention vr6, are they the same?

Also I had my local auto spares price me a fuel sender unit and he said its £90, I think this was from tps?

Am I on the right track? What is it called a fuel sendor, fuel pump, are these the same thing?

No , the pump is your feed to the filter and then to the fuel rail . The sender does exactly that , it measures and sends the signal to the gadge . The sender sits on the side of the pump .

Just found this fuel pump complete with sender unit.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PETROL-PUMP-ELECTRIC-3-0-BAR-WITH-FUEL-SENDER-UNIT-VW-VOLKSWAGEN-/371108407969?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3ACorrado&hash=item5667c8eaa1

States the pump will fit Corrado's 2.0 8v, 2.0 16v, 2.9 VR6

and it's £40.80 like I say comes complete with the sender unit already attached to fuel pump.

Hope this helps

Blow some dust of this old thread.

Today I removed my fuel pump, the pump itself is OK as is the fixing to the base of the tank.

The pump housing is in 2 parts, inner (containing the actual pump)and outer that twists into the base of the tank, these to parts are held together with 3 rubber hangers to give the pump some suspension, mine have rotted away allowing the pump to move around when negotiating bends and roundabouts when the tank is low on fuel.

Pics to follow

I don't suppose these rubber mounts are available separately?
