fla 9 Posted September 5, 2014 i thought they were the same for dizzy or coilpack but different depending upon the year of the car? The last two letter (eg AG, CP) are the ones you need to look out for. AG is the most widely used, CP was the last run of cars and, i believe, has some elements of an immobiliser in it a la OBD2. I've just sold a couple of AG ecus.
dr_mat 0 Posted September 6, 2014 Definitely different ECU. CP means coil pack, AG means not.. Yep CP gets an immobiliser and a few other "enhancements" over AG, such as a soldered in EPROM where the AG had a socket mounted. But there you go.
Roger Chatfield 0 Posted September 6, 2014 Definitely different ECU. CP means coil pack, AG means not.. Mmmmmm strange, I've got 3 spare ecu's The top two are from a local lad who I bought an engine from, I'm not even sure what car these came out of has he had a converted 1.6 mk4 golf but the engine was a ABV and had a dizzy but also came with the correct cover to run a coil pack. As you can see one is an A code and one is AG. The bottom one I have just got Gareth (VR6gar) and has come from a L plate running coil pack car. Rog. Sorry but that is not right AG is coilpack and so is CP with the extras mentioned. Dizzy ecus are 258A, 258B, and probably 258AB and other single letters, but AG is definitely coil pack
science 0 Posted September 8, 2014 See here; http://www.corrado-club.ca/tech/vwecucodes.htm Bosch Motronic 2.7 are distributer VR6 ECUs Bosch Motronic 2.9 are early coil pack VR6 ECUs Bosch Motronic 2.91 are late coil pack VR6 ECUs Bosch Motronic 3.81 are OBD2 VR6 ECUs
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted September 9, 2014 CP is the immobilised VR6 ECU. AG was both coilpack and Dizzy as per Corrado9A's post. Coilpack ECU has 3 low tension coil outputs, Dizzy ECU only has 1.
