badsamaritan 10 Posted October 18, 2014 Hi guys, Things are just confusing me today, even posting a thread here is just so complicated for me. Anyways i changed my water pump today n things were going well until i tried mounting back the alternator bracket onto the water pump. The bracket holes dont seem to align with the studs any more. this has got me so confused i now dont remember how the studs were in the first place. The studs are tapered on one side . my question is which side goes into the block, the tapered one or the normal side?

badsamaritan 10 Posted October 18, 2014 It has four studs in all, which also act as nuts in the centre. the top ones which actually hold pump to the block are one which dont now align to the alternator mounting plate.

I had to drill the plate and make the holes larger to compensate for the shift in stud position during loosening and re tightening of the studs. I honestly dont think those holes had to be such a tight fit, given a lot of force is applied when working on them. Just a slight change is position of studs will make that plate a nightmare to fit!!
