10jonesy7 0 Posted November 22, 2014 long story short, basically half rebuilt the car. Went to start the car after checking everything, ignition comes on as normal but when turning the key to actually start the engine, it all dies and dash lights start to flicker. Is this the starter motor that's gone, or is there more serious problems going on? sorry its a bit short and vague description. Thanks Daniel
seanl82 23 Posted November 22, 2014 Sounds like a simple dead battery that mate.
10jonesy7 0 Posted November 22, 2014 Cant be, its a brand new battery
swiftkid 1 Posted November 22, 2014 But it can be a flat brand new battery, id stick it on charge or try another battery to rule it out
Dox 23 Posted November 22, 2014 Put a meter across the battery terminals, you're looking for at least 12.6V, now add some load, lights, HRW, heater blower, etc recheck the previous battery voltage - what do you have now?
seanl82 23 Posted November 22, 2014 Check your terminals are on tight too.
10jonesy7 0 Posted November 22, 2014 the negative was a slightly bit baggy. I tightened it as much as possible. would that cause the problem though?

10jonesy7 0 Posted November 22, 2014 how do you make it tight around the terminal? its as tight as it'll go? even writing this, it sounds like a stupid question. ha
seanl82 23 Posted November 22, 2014 (edited) Force the terminal downward on the battery post as much as possible. Old clamps don't close enough around the top of the taper on the post so you won't get good contact. A new battery like you have is usually a bit better, but not always. 10jonesy7 0 Posted December 1, 2014 Cheers guys. Was a combination of all of the suggestions. Thanks. Just need to sort out the blowing exhaust manifold now. Typical, always more problems.
