Help - Wont start Vr6

Recommended Posts

long story short, basically half rebuilt the car. Went to start the car after checking everything, ignition comes on as normal but when turning the key to actually start the engine, it all dies and dash lights start to flicker.

Is this the starter motor that's gone, or is there more serious problems going on?

sorry its a bit short and vague description.

Thanks Daniel

Put a meter across the battery terminals, you're looking for at least 12.6V, now add some load, lights, HRW, heater blower, etc recheck the previous battery voltage - what do you have now?

the negative was a slightly bit baggy. I tightened it as much as possible. would that cause the problem though?

Yes

Force the terminal downward on the battery post as much as possible. Old clamps don't close enough around the top of the taper on the post so you won't get good contact. A new battery like you have is usually a bit better, but not always.

Cheers guys. Was a combination of all of the suggestions. Thanks. Just need to sort out the blowing exhaust manifold now. Typical, always more problems.
