Mk3highline 10 Posted January 23, 2015 Just seeing if anyone on here would be interested http://www.vr6oc.com/forum/topic/45757-custom-made-vr6r32-x-beam-forged-rods/?p=433013#entry433013 As there a few already going turbo
Mk3highline 10 Posted January 26, 2015 Any interest
Dox 23 Posted January 26, 2015 There's been a couple of regular track day lads on CGTi that have fitted chinese rods and suffered failures (a 1.8T and a home brew 16VT) where they never did with standard rods, the "ARP" marked rod bolts are failing they claim. I'm not saying these are the same items but buyer beware it seems. There are people here running standard rods with turbos using ARP rod bolts from reputable sources without problems. They do look nice though
Mk3highline 10 Posted January 26, 2015 It's with anything I guess we would need a reputable person to see how good they are I will look in to this too And I will check back
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 27, 2015 Wouldn't be surprised if the H Beams he's selling are the same as these - http://www.spturbo.com/onlinestore/index.php/volkswagen/vr6/12-valve/pistons/vr6-h-beam-connecting-rods-5-16-bolt.html Anything that Bill Schimmel has signed off and sells is as good an endorsement as any in my book :) He used to sell 'Crower' branded rods, but now uses these 'unbranded' ones. Rods not needed with Loving the billet rocker cover, billet dipstick and vernier cam wheels for the VR6 he's recently made!
Mk3highline 10 Posted January 27, 2015 I'm more interested in these if there lighter but don't want to pay for titanium Good find kev It's like most of the bbs replicas or any replica wheel for that matter that are being sold imo there sh1t coming from 15years experience in alloy wheels mainly Chinese But then momo are made in China iPhones are made in China As long as one does the background on the factory etc these can be alright
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 27, 2015 Titanium is a complete waste in an engine (imo) unless you want a billion rpm from it :) Yeah I would never use There is nothing wrong with Chinese made products per se, the problem is the western organisations (mostly ebay shops) who pay them for **** quality specifically in order to maximise their profit margins. They don't give a rat's arse if a crap wheel buckles and puts you in a ditch. The difference with Apple is they pay China to make their phones to a particular standard, and it shows. But thanks to the ebay cretins selling cheap knock offs, Chinese made products have a bad rep in general, and that's allowed to happen because there are too many gullible people in the world who think a product on ebay that's less than half the price of a branded product, will be the same quality. Mk3highline 10 Posted January 27, 2015 Kev when is your r32 getting a blower strapped to it???
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 27, 2015 I haven't got the R32 anymore :) I've got an Edition 30 that's making around 340hp, all stock, just more boost :D
Mk3highline 10 Posted January 27, 2015 Show off lol
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 27, 2015 You'll be making 400+ if you boost that 24V! :D
Mk3highline 10 Posted January 27, 2015 I'm hoping I'm happy with 300ft lbs torque, High comp low boost big turbo water injection My aim is to have the torque rise gradually from 3.5k (200ft lbs) to 7.5k (300 ft lbs) I'm trying to work around keeping the plastic inlet as imo it works great
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 27, 2015 The plastic intake on the AUE is really fragile. I reckon 8psi would be your lot! The R32's is a lot stronger, but you can't use that unless you use an R32 head with it. 8psi should be good for 300lbft though and will feel loads quicker than standard. If you want more power / torque at the top end, you'd be better off with a short intake, but it'll kill your bottom end on the 24V.
Mk3highline 10 Posted January 27, 2015 Any plastic heated up will expand and under pressure will not help so as long as I keep in inlet air cool it should hold up? Too cold and it gets brittle Tomorrows outcome with the sharan ecu will decide which way I go, aue turbo if it works If not then mk4 r32 head r32 Pistons and r32 management with a 2.8 block
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 28, 2015 On the AUE the problem is the cover for the short runner plenum. They've been known to blow apart with boost. The R32's intake is a lot stronger. Can take a bar of boost OK. You can just use a 3.2 crank with your 2.8 block and R32 head to get a 3.0, but you'd need custom pistons to get the deck height right. R32 crank has 5mm more throw. You might be better off just using the R32 head on your 2.8, but IIRC, the head bolts are different lengths and diameters between AUE and 3.2, so again, you might need custom bolts. I just remember having both engines to hand and came to the conclusion just using the whole 3.2 engine was easier!
Mk3highline 10 Posted January 28, 2015 Id rather have the over sized Pistons to match ther32 heads combustion chamber Still not got rid of my fault still if the new Bosch cam sensor don't fix it tomorrow I'm throwing in the towel
coullstar 0 Posted January 28, 2015 Get a new inlet 3d printed in unobtanium......
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 28, 2015 Id rather have the over sized Pistons to match ther32 heads combustion chamber Still not got rid of my fault still if the new Bosch cam sensor don't fix it tomorrow I'm throwing in the towel Can't do that. Too little meat in the 2.8 block for 84mm pistons, especially with boost. The R32 block is a new casting. Throwing the whole towel in, or just half of it and going 24V management?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 28, 2015 Get a new inlet 3d printed in unobtanium...... That will actually be viable in the future when 3d printing gets cheaper and easier to use!
coullstar 0 Posted January 28, 2015 I know, I cannot wait. Think of the weird and wonderful things we will be able to do in the future on the cars. I could design my own wheels and change them every week, lol.
Mk3highline 10 Posted January 28, 2015 Well as will be getting new Pistons so whichever over sized ones fit safely 24v management is looking promising but then part of me want to make it work before I move on to 24v management No one likes a quitter
Dox 23 Posted January 28, 2015 So why dont you modify the cam wheel to suit ther VR6 sensor?
Mk3highline 10 Posted January 28, 2015 I'm a lazy ******* lol got the new phase wheel from tps I need to get the front end off to get the inlet off to get to the cams I'm doing it ass about face but once I tried the each way the next person won't have this trouble
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 28, 2015 I thought the way you went about it was a bit odd to begin with, but I admire your staying power and you've done well to get it working as well as you have. Going 24V management isn't quitting, it will just make your life a bit easier and then you can channel your creativity into other areas and not worry about cam sensors etc! I know, I cannot wait. Think of the weird and wonderful things we will be able to do in the future on the cars. I could design my own wheels and change them every week, lol. I think Koenigsegg 3D printed an entire turbo as one part! So the possibilities are endless!
Mk3highline 10 Posted January 28, 2015 You lot actually convinced me to use the 24v management which I intended to use as got the whole lot ecu wiring engine etc from same car, was having dash out to do heater matrix and mate to do wiring but the ecu I got was fooked so attempted this to get back home as had been away for 6 days and Mrs was fuming Once I got my second car i can take more time and care with it Worst part is having things delivers els where so she don't find out
