Wayne2015 10 Posted February 10, 2015 Hi Read so much about this problem on here, Golf forum, Pistonheads etc etc But there is no CLEAR definitivr solution :( :( :( It started to stall once every other day - Be it warm, cold, oil temp low or 100 degrees. BUT always when changing down towards a junction. The battery light comes on and if i rev it enough its ok. Else that split second the battery light comes on- it stalls :( Its done it EVERY DAY now for 3-4 days in a trot Now SIX times in a 60min lunch break :( Is there somewhere i can start with solidly? I read about - 1. Clean ISV 2. Check MAF 3. Clean throttle body 4. Reset ECU 5. Check all intake pipes... Help?!!!! :(
MZpog 10 Posted February 10, 2015 Are you pressing the clutch? Only joking but does it stall in neutral too?
mic_VR 3 Posted February 10, 2015 There's a damper box attached to the ISV. This is filled with foam, which can get sucked into the ISV, and due to the heat from the exhaust they are prone to cracking. I'd check this also.
Wayne2015 10 Posted February 10, 2015 Are you pressing the clutch? Only joking but does it stall in neutral too? ALWAYS neutral, Stuart! Cant really keep my eyes on the dash and road at same time, But: 1. ALWAYS when slowing down 2. AND in the MIDDLE of changing down 3. AND always in neutral The EXACT SCENARIO seems to be: 1. Coming to junction (or slowing down)... 2. Nearly stop, depress clutch, neutral 3. Think the rev just dipping to 400rpm 4. Battery light flickers 5. Battery light All steps 3-6 in a split second ... 6. STALLED !

Wayne2015 10 Posted February 10, 2015 Just to clarify again When key is position 2 on dash: 1. Battery light on 2. Handbrake light on 3. Oil lamp light FLASHING??????????????
VR6 South 0 Posted February 10, 2015 Just to clarify again When key is position 2 on dash: 1. Battery light on 2. Handbrake light on 3. Oil lamp light FLASHING?????????????? They should all read that way without the engine running :)
seanl82 23 Posted February 10, 2015 If you can nurse it down at the weekend Wayne, I'll go through everything with you and we can give the car a bit of a healthcheck mate.

Wayne2015 10 Posted February 10, 2015 Got the lose tape! And NO, its NOT a selfie-stick LOL Leaking coolant? YES! Well this be the caused? But if it is shouldnt it just overheat engine at all speeds/rev? Not just stalled at 400rpm in neutral?
Wayne2015 10 Posted February 10, 2015 Is it safe just to top up coolant with tap water????
GlosterOx 0 Posted February 10, 2015 Better to use Demin water if you have some. Ian.
seanl82 23 Posted February 10, 2015 If it's loosing coolant quickly, just use tap water temporarily until it's sorted. You'll only have to replace the lot anyway once it's fixed as there won't be much anti freeze left if your constantly topping up. possible causes are radiator, hoses, or crack pipe from around that area. Keep a close eye on it if I were you until it's fixed. Again mate, if you're comfortable with it until Sunday we can have a good look over and I'll point you in the right direction. Saves a few pennies in garage labour too!
Wayne2015 10 Posted February 10, 2015 Better to use Demin water if you have some. Ian. Demin? Can I just ask for that at motor factor? No special type or grade???
Chuggs1 10 Posted February 10, 2015 Demineralised and yes you can get from any motor factor - I think Tesco do it in their car section too
Chuggs1 10 Posted February 10, 2015 Think it is also called de-ionised

Have only owned a couple of late 80s Jap cars - Learnt a lot about them! Mostly engine and electrics are solid :) Rust is the killer plus water leaks. But when looking for the Corrado - I applied the same technique. But still plenty of learned from owning one and from owners on here :) Deffo BIG grin on my face too driving it DAILY :) UNTIL the constant stalling :( Auto rear spoiler is the most talking, finger pointing and amazed looks in the rear mirror on my car - lol Edited February 10, 2015 by Wayne2015
seanl82 23 Posted February 10, 2015 I still watch it come up in the rear view after owning one for 4 years! Lol.
