*** Help with Spoiler only working manually and not at speed ***

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, i need help with this spoiler issue which is annoying me! I just can't figure out what it could be as from reading several threads it could be a number of things, wiring/dash clocks, speed sensor module, spoiler itself etc

Is there anyone in and around Bingley, West Yorkshire who can help me please...? I'm confuzzled..

My MFA is also stuck on the clock.

I have a 1992 K reg G60.

Thanks.

U bought it - wow, that's fast!

Read my thread (in my signature)!

Mine s sat in a Corrado specialist next to Girlington Morrison for 4 weeks!

His name is Chris Umpley and charges £40/hr - so best to ring around for comparison.

Still hoping for u someone here has a quick solution for u!!!

Tabbi,

Have you tried anything yourself to fix the spoiler or are you just looking for pointers?

If you haven't tried anything, the first thing I would suggest is try disconnecting the radio and see if that gets it working.

Bingley seems to be getting common place for Corrado's, soon everyone will drive one.

As for spoiler problems, me too. It works on the switch, but not automatically. I have a couple of spare control units that I bought with a view to fixing mine (it didn't) that you could borrow if you like, however if your MAF isn't working, then I'd expect its something to do with that. My understanding is the G60 has a speedo cable (I'm no expert so correct me if I'm wrong) so your speedo would still work, even if your speed sensor that controls the spoiler doesn't.

Ive just read a load of stuff pointing to speed sensors, dash clocks, control modules, wiring and even the spoiler itself. I know the prev owner replaced the stalk and clocks but without luck. I did pull the fuse box yesterday and noticed a blue/white wire with a white plug on the end disconnected, but couldnt find where it would go....

Will try pull stereo and see what happens.

There are a few cables behind the fuse box that aren't connected in, they're for options and other market components so don't worry about that. As said, pull the stereo and try that first, but the other most common problem is the control module located behind the dash, beside the manual switch. I'd do what you can as most things are relatively cheap, before handing it over to a garage that charge a fortune in labour alone.

Okay been looking at the diagrams for this today, and I have also read the issues with the spoiler from the previous owner.

There are only 2 wires that go to the spoiler itself.

1 is from the switch

1 is from the control module

As you spoiler is only working with the switch, I would disconnect the radio and check.

If still no joy, I would check the VSS which is on the gearbox with 3 wires on it

Black wire should have 12v with ignition on

Brown should go to ground

White/Blue should go to back of the fuse box

There are a couple of more wires that go to the back of the fuse box, that would we could check. But let us know your findings on the above.

Thanks sankysvr6. I will try removing the stereo to see if that works. In regards to the speed sensor, if there was an issue would that have an effect on the speedo which works fine...??

What I can make of the diagram, is that it goes VSS to the fuse box, from there it goes to the dash and the module.

So even though the speedo works it could be a wire a miss at the fuse box end.

One other thing to try, is trying lifting the spoiler with the switch, then go for drive and get over 45mph, and see if comes down by itself when you come to a stop.

It'll return down if you drive over 15 mph then come to a stop. No need to get it to raise speed, so a quick trip to the end of the street will let you know if its working as it should.

To me it seems its not getting any signal from the VSS, did you say you have replaced the spoiler control unit already?

Do you think you will be able to post a picture of the control unit with wiring going to it? As your wiring might be different to the diagram that i am looking at.

You can also check the wire of pin8 of the unit could Blue/White or White Yellow, but on that pin and check that it goes to the back of the fuse box on the W/01 connector

Some info on the fuse box side of things

Here's a couple of control units

It's positioned behind the dash, where your right knee is when your sitting in the driver's seat, check the plugs in properly

Any chance you can flip that around so I can see how many contacts are on there.

Still would like a picture of yours Tabbi to the colours of the wires going to it

I removed the cover and checked the wires going to the switch. All tight and plugged in. There were 3 wires to the switch. Also checked the module, has 4 wires going to it....i think. Green, brown, black and blue/white. I followed these along and it disappears into the main loom somewhere.
