Goldie 2 Posted February 6, 2016 My 8V will soon be needing a cam belt. Im just after anyones advice on where to source the parts. Am i best off going to the dealer? What make belt should i be using? Additionally while I'm in there what else should i change, tensioner etc? Thanks in advance..
seanl82 23 Posted February 6, 2016 Depends how confident you are with aftermarket parts Michael. When I had my mk3 GTI (AGG engine but essentially the same) I did the cambelt, and just bought a kit from ECP. It was a Contitech one iirc, and came with the tensioner and was pretty cheap. Definitely change the tensioner at the same time as the belt though.
Goldie 2 Posted February 6, 2016 Id prefer to use something that is OE but don't know if VW make their own belts or if they are made by a third party..
Harrier 1 Posted February 6, 2016 (edited) 'Gates' are possibly the best you can get imo , fitted as O.E on many makes. Buy it as a kit with the tensioner pulley. :) Most motor factors could supply it. Edited February 6, 2016 by Harrier

Jim 2 Posted February 6, 2016 Continental / Contitech are an OE belt certainly for auxiliary belts so would be surprised if they aren't for cam belts too.
