WillMK7 10 Posted February 22, 2016 Hi chaps, I've been driving my valver for around 6 months now and love it of course. However I do find it tops out quite quickly, with the current gearbox I hit 3,000 rpm at 60 in 5th. I don't do a lot of long distance driving, but in the trips I have done it does feel like it needs another gear. What I'm wondering is, is there another gearbox that will fit the Corrado with different ratios? I know with a 16v golf there was a later gearbox you could fit, so I was wondering if there was one similar for the Corrado? Any help, advice ect is appreciated! Thanks Will
davidwort 0 Posted February 22, 2016 If I remember rightly the mk3 golf has the longest legged 16v ratios, the 1.8 16v the shortest, I wouldn't use a box from a G60 or diesel though as it just wouldn't suit the 16v, ideally you want a longer 5th added to a standard 16v box
Yandards 0 Posted February 22, 2016 An ASD 5th gear cog is the longest one you will find (its from a MK 3 TDI box) but it only drops the revs by about 250 RPM IIRC. Problem is the final drive, it's quite short on the valvers hence the higher RPM.
