1996 Corrado VR6, Classic Green *SOLD*

Recommended Posts

For sale, my 1996 'N' Corrado VR6 in Classic Green Pearl,

with full original black heated leather interior.

** MOT carried out last week, so almost 12 months MOT remaining **

139k miles.

3 former keepers. HPI clear.

I've owned this car for 10 years! Corrado Club member. The previous owner had it featured in the Corrado Club magazine (I have a copy of it somewhere!) and then emigrated to Canada.

Driven carefully, in regular use, I've averaged 6K a year of motorway commuting/weekend runs, but in the last 3 years I've only done about 2k per year. It drives beautifully, smooth and powerful.

My previous cars - a Corrado G60, and before that a mk2 GTi, so i've been a VW enthusiast for nearly 20 years now.

It has wanted for nothing mechanically. I've modified little, maintaining it to a high standard and keeping it clean & waxed. Only ever hand washed in my ownership using Swissvax products & carnauba wax.

Lots of VAG service history/VW specialist history from previous owners.

12 stamps in the service book - 7 years of main dealer servicing, then 4 years of Autowerke & Star performance

In my ownership, maintained by a mechanical engineer(me) and the superb General Motor Co.(VW Specialist) of Hazel Grove, Cheshire. I've spent hundreds of hours maintaining it, using the best parts and never rushing a job.

Lots of work done in the last 10k miles, with thick folder of receipts for work done and parts purchased.

Yearly oil and filter changes (Genuine oil filter & Synta Silver semi-synthetic oil)

All other service items carried out to book schedule (Air filter, spark plugs, fuel filter, brake fluid changes etc.)

Sunroof tilts & slides perfectly.

Electric rear spoiler fully operational, raises/lowers automatically and via. a manual switch.

Electric windows, electric mirror adjustment and heated glass all fully working.

Windscreen is free of stone chips/cracks/scratches.

Interior excellent condition, no holes/cracks or mods to dashboard, all trim intact.

Original heated Leather interior & door cards immaculate apart from usual driver's seat bolster wear.

Underbody is very good, sills /arches are given an extra coat of Waxoyl/Sealant every year.

Spare wheel, toolkit, jack, unopened first aid kit and warning triangle all present.

Engine smooth, quiet, no smoke, power output just as you would expect if it was a new car. Easily achieves 35mpg on a run.

Engine starts instantly hot or cold. All dash lights work, warning lights for coolant/oil etc. work and go out once the engine is started.

Water & Oil temperatures correct and consistent.

Clutch & gearbox perfect, smooth easy gear changes.

Reason for Sale - An ever expanding family (recent second baby) and a long term house renovation project - ideally now I need an old estate car - I could keep the Corrado for weekends but I think the time has come for someone else with a bit more time on their hands to cherish this Corrado and keep it going for many decades more. I don't want to (and won't) sell it to some idiot who will ruin it - my previous cars (Mk2 GTi, Corrado G60) both went to very good homes and I want the same for this one.

Minor faults -

Heater fan only working on speed 4.

Slight rust patch to rear arch lips, and rust bubbling around part of filler flap area.

Alloys ideally require a refurb. (I have brand new BBS polished alloy centre caps to go with these! included in the sale.

Minor scratch on roof, and a small one on rear panel just below tailgate lock.

Bonnet release handle needs pulling further past it's stop to pop the bonnet- may need adjustment/repair.

Spare parts available -

New VAG roof trims, pair.

Spare silicone water/oil hoses

BBS polished alloy centre caps

Spare ISV, spare serpentine belt tensioner.

Plus some others TBA.

Price - £3750

Do you want to sell the spares as a job lot separately?

Heater resistor is an easy fix and providing the bonnet pull works I wouldn't mention it.

Hi,

I am looking get back into corrado ownership after selling my 2.0L 8V back in 1997! It looks great as I don't want to pay silly money for one that's absolutely mint, these cars are for driving after all. I've tried to send you a private message I hope you received it OK.

Chris.

SOLD for pretty much asking price 😭😭😭

Gutted....odd feeling watching a car you've looked after for 10 years being driven off by someone else.

But it is going to a good home, the new owner is a VW man and a mechanic and has been looking for a C for years. He has a garage all ready for it and the rust areas are going to be sorted properly. It will be seen at the VW shows in the future and I'm sure he'll be joining the Corrado forum soon.

I'll probably look to buy another one in about 10 years when I have more time on my hands and have a garage (prices will probably be mental then!)

With 3 first time posters interested in the car and not buying it it makes me wonder that with prices rising some are traders looking to pick up a bargain?

I find it strange that decent cars don't sell here?

Well done with the sale :)

I didn't come across anyone who seemed like they were a trader. I probably could of sold it on here but I didn't do that many viewings to start with so I lost a couple of people who went off and bought other corrados. The serious buyers view then spend time getting inspections or prices for body repair etc. So it takes a while. It was worth putting it on ebay, although you get 200 stupid enquiries, there are some good buyers who aren't aware of the forum. Surprisingly there were loads of ebayers that were willing to pay £3k to buy it unseen, as part of some £6k show car/respray project, where mechanicals did not matter so much to them, imo they would be better buying a cheap tatty one to restore. Lots of serious interest as well though that didn't get in quick enough.

I'm not a trader and I was genuinely interested in the car. As Andy says, having viewed the car I had to arrange an inspection and by the time this could happen the car had been sold. However, I expect that traders do lurk on forums like this and m3cutters all the time looking for decent examples that they can valet and add £5k to the price.

I hope you can find a good one. Read the buyers guide on here to find the various issues to look for, also watch the wheeler dealers issue on youtube for similar pointers on a big screen.
