robrado974 1 Posted August 26, 2016 Morning chaps . Quick question . I need to order a new sump gasket . I've left a few bolts in to hold up the sump to stop moisture , but I didn't put the metal casing in place . Will this be ok for a while ?. Thanks Rob

seanl82 23 Posted August 26, 2016 Should be fine Rob, they're obsolete from the dealer so can't get oe now anyway. Make sure you get the right one though, there's a thicker rubber one for later cars, and i believe it's a paper gasket for early VR6s. Sump bolts are longer for the rubber one mate. swiftkid 1 Posted August 26, 2016 Just in case you needed further reassurance they don't fit on 24v conversions so I can't fit one at all.
Jon_vr6 1 Posted August 26, 2016 Just a pointer when you tighten up the bolts be careful with the ones nearest the gearbox as they are prone to stripping if overtightened and will need helicoiling to sort it.

Roger Blassberg 0 Posted August 26, 2016 Autodoc.co.uk About £16 delivered to your door from Berlin. Manufactured by Elring. Part nr. 021 103 609B for later VR6. Do not use jointing compound on this later gasket, the advice in Bentley manual is for earlier gasket. As said by others, do not overtighten the 3 bolts in the flywheel end or this simple job will become much more complicated. I replaced the sump as well for the sake of £35. The old one was very rusty and was weeping oil. Best wishes RB
robrado974 1 Posted August 27, 2016 (edited) Thanks Roger . I think I will get a new sump . Mine is not the best .I will have to check if they do parts for early cars, otherwise I will end up getting longer sump bolts too . Roger Blassberg 0 Posted August 27, 2016 The sump is the same for early and late cars. [email protected] , will get you a sump for about £35 delivered from Aylesbury. Fit and forget for the next 20 years. RB
