NickHall55 10 Posted February 8, 2017 Hi, Another job needs doing on my old mans $^&$^$ of a corrado. He's had major overheating issues which fingers crossed I've sorted ish, but the last time it overheated before the "repair" steam came through all the vents and the carpet is soaked. After reading various things it looks like a %$%^ of a job. Is there a guide (with piccies for the clueless) Regards, Nick.

After reading various things it looks like a %$%^ of a job. Is there a guide (with piccies for the clueless) Regards, Nick. hi nick it is not that bad a job, just fiddly & time consuming. basic tools & scraped knuckles really & yes i have a guide, with lots of pictures too lol drop me a PM with your email address & i will send it you things to note..... try to get a Valeo brand matrix prepare to have to reline the directional flaps in the airbox, sticky back felt is what people have used on here - as if you dont you will end up like me.....having to take dash out for a 2nd time as all the hot air mixes with the cold label everything as you remove it a hose clip tool makes reconnecting the hoses onto the matrix much easier if you take a look at my build thread here http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?44751-g0ldf1ng3r-s-VR6-amp-1-8-16V/page18&highlight=g0ldf1ng3r it has a write up & pics on when i did the one in the valver
Jim 2 Posted February 8, 2017 It's time consuming for sure but not that terrible. Just arm yourself with as much information as you can beforehand on the process, make sure you have plenty of space to lay out the parts you remove, bag up / label the nuts / bolts and the connectors as you disconnect stuff behind the dash. If you're methodical and have an ounce of patience, you'll do fine :)

g0ldf1ng3r 15 Posted February 9, 2017 OMG!! just seen the pics on your thread GF..... They're not going to do that to my pride and joy are they?? :gag: :gag: HOLY SCHNIKEY!!! ha ha ha!!! yes my friend i am afraid they will have to - better that than trying to wriggle the air box out with half the dash in, i have no clue how some people have achieved that! have you asked them to check & reline your air box flaps whilst they are in there m8? 100% worth doing if needed & maybe even replacing anyway as a preventative maintenance & checked what brand matrix they are fitting? valeo are meant to be the most reliable if it was me i would also be expressing my concerns about them being extremely gentle with all the plastics - it is very easy to accidentally break things like the air vent moving parts as they can be brittle i hope you have something planned to take your mind of it on your days off ;) lol

g0ldf1ng3r 15 Posted February 9, 2017 Hope you like spaghetti. This is from when I did mine a couple years ago :) lol - looks about right Jim its not that bad a job though really is it think im going to take more time reassembling the valver's when i take it out again to do the flaps - tidy the wiring, install front speaker cables & solder on a new ISO connector for a stereo

Cressa 44 Posted February 9, 2017 I gaffa taped all my airbox joints as I refitted them. Made a heck of a difference having air blow out where it is supposed to. Just a pointer Cressa Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

Jim 2 Posted February 9, 2017 You can get from VW (and I guess from eBay, etc) rolls of a sticky backed felt used specifically for helping stop trim rattles and the like in car interiors. Reckon that'd make for an excellent gasket between the air hose nozzles.
delfinis38 1 Posted February 9, 2017 Bought something similar from hobby craft recently. Stick felt sheets.
swiftkid 1 Posted February 9, 2017 I did the same, got some sticky back foam and made a surprisingly big difference Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
GrizzlyBear 11 Posted February 10, 2017 I'm past the point of no return now ;) However, I'm unsure on where to put the sticky back felt in the airbox. Can any of you guys show me what to do? Don't want to do this all over again! Sorry to hijack your post Nick! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Cressa 44 Posted February 10, 2017 Get the main heater box out. It is the one that had the heater directional control cables going to it. In the middle of the car. . 2 fixng bolts in the engine as well as being fixed from the fan housing. Once you get it out, you can split it open and clean the flaps. Also consider doing the vent flaps at the dashboards whilst you're at ithttp://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/589d85dd1ebb4/20151229_113426.jpg Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

Don't want to do this all over again! Sorry to hijack your post Nick! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Hi Nick if you take a look at the page i sent you on my build thread there are a few pics where you can see the inside of my air box. you will see 2, i think, mental panels on the inside of the air box & can see where the original lining has disintegrated allowing you to then see the holes in said metal plate IIRC there is one each side, IE left & right it is the moving part/panel inside the air box that provides the mix between hot or cold air when you move the dial on the heater controls basically inside the big black box bit you have to wriggle out from the very centre of the console once the dash is out & you have removed the small metal bracket from by the gear lever

Cressa 44 Posted February 10, 2017 Did you change your ignition switch? It is certainly easier at this stage and genuine vw aren't too expensive Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
