Heater matrix?

Recommended Posts

Can anyone advise what signs would suggest the heater matrix has gone- the reason I ask is that I have recently noticed a wet patch on the carpet in the drivers footwell and drops of water on the bonnet release handle and the pimpled bulkhead cover just below it. Are these symptoms of the matrix having gone or is it going to be a leak from somewhere else? There don't appear to be wet pitches anywhere else. The car when parked at home drops slightly to the drivers side due to the camber of the drive so wondering if it could be running from somewhere else because of this?

It's more likely to be rain water and a leak from somewhere if it's that far along... if you get the water on your fingers, it should smell pretty clearly of coolant and may have a slightly greasy feel to it.

Bad news is, if it is rain water, it might well be coming down over your fusebox (which is in the same location as the bonnet release handle) so you probably want be looking into that pretty sharpish :(

sounds like it could be a ingress from the windscreen area

i wouldnt say it was matrix as that is normally on passenger side

As said above, doubtful its matrix if its near bonnet cable. I'd probably suggest cleaning out sunroof drain as its runs down the A pillar. Also worth checking seal at bottom of windscreen, I wouldn't worry but mine had lifted and caused rust at the bottom of the A pillar.

And check the seal at the air intake in the front scuttle. If your car is leaning it can come through this and run across the car. Solved my little leak. .
