Sallyanne 10 Posted May 19, 2018 Hi all, I’ve just bought an 80,000 mile VR6 that’s only done about 100 miles over the last couple of years but seemed to run beautifully when I test drove it for a couple of miles but after collecting it yesterday, after a few miles it developed a misfire when accelerating up to about 2000rpm. Above that, it was absolutely fine. I’ve booked it in at my local VW dealer next week but would be very grateful for some pointers as to what might be the cause so I don’t get fleeced for too much! Many thanks.
dr_mat 0 Posted May 19, 2018 Pointer number one is don't let a dealer touch it... Suggest it probably needs a good run is all, give it a couple of hundred miles and some fresh fuel and I imagine it'll run a lot better.
Sallyanne 10 Posted May 19, 2018 (edited) Ok thanks for the advice! The HT leads do look awful though (one even held together with insulation tape). I was guessing this might be the number one cause? Also I filled it up with super unleaded but have no idea what it was running on before. Edited May 19, 2018 by Sallyanne
dr_mat 0 Posted May 19, 2018 (edited) Dodgy leads would absolutely cause those kinds of problems yes. A new set is about fifty quid from GSF. If that's the case seems likely a good service with new plugs, leads, filters, oil and so on would be a good idea. virtuoso23 10 Posted May 21, 2018 I second that about avoiding the vw dealers, they genuinely don't have a clue when it comes to the Corrado. I once phoned up for a timing chain quote: reply was, "They don't need replacing" Hung up!
Sallyanne 10 Posted May 21, 2018 Thank you both. I'll be taking it instead to my little local VW specialist who at least has experience of Corrados!

I once phoned up for a timing chain quote: reply was, "They don't need replacing" Hung up! Sadly, that was the company line. And that was probably true from a dealer pov; people stopped taking Corrado to dealers before the timing chains needed to be done.. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.
