Knackered 2.9 Engine

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any advice, bought a Corrado VR6 from Jersey was told the head gasket had went in the last month, it handn’t. Appears it’s been sitting for some time with water in it and cylinder head goosed and not usable and one cylinder has been sitting with water in it too and has some corrosion.

Car has done 79000 miles cloth interiour.

Any suggestions from people car currently sitting at Stealth Racing.

Get another block? or stick a 24v / r32 in it :)

Oh and sell your block for a few hundred as people seem to be paying over the odds for knackered engines these days to turn them into coffee tables

There is a guy on here who does recon heads in Poland and ships to here for £500ish. Not sure with the block. Price up a bottom end recon/rebore or maybe a rebore and sleeve in the effected bore.

I remember seeing in the past a 3.1 conversion on a VR6 but assume this would be big money?

What do people expect a rebore to cost?

If I could get a Cylinder Head?

Ross

If not the car has potential to end up in the scrap heap in the sky.

If the car had corrados and aircon that would be different.

Or any ideas what putting a 3.6 in it would cost

Options are limited and probably expensive unfortunately

A rebore / rebuild will cost in excess of £3k plus the cylinder head

A second hand engine will probably require a rebuild unless you are very lucky and find something decent

24v conversions aren't straight forward

Good luck anyway :(

See what stealth come back with. Some people saybthe 1.8t conversion is very straightforward and there are lots of engines.you could also get a 2.8 from a golf and get it rebored to 2.9 so basically like a fresh block.

I just bought myself one of these

Its a 2.8, but will be using the corrado inlet and fitting some schimmel cams, so probably more or less the same as an ABV.

I've since found out its actually an AFP engine, not an AAA, so it hasn't got the right cams, cams sprockets and cam trigger, plus there is an EGR valve hole in the head which needs blanking.

Seemed to me to be the best cheapest option, Just paying Vince to build my bottom end cost me £850
