thesingh 0 Posted March 30, 2019 Beside breakers, is there a place I buy new replacement heating control lights? Ive had a look at the usual ebay, google, VW heritage etc... but no joy. Thanks for any help.
Keyo 47 Posted March 31, 2019 The heating controls just have one bulb which you can get from halfords off the shelf described as 286 bulb . Remove key from ignition. Pull off the middle heater dial. Pull out the green insert that sits in the rear of the dial. Pull out the bulb from green insert and replace. https://www.halfords.com/motoring/bulbs-blades-batteries/car-bulbs/286-car-bulb-manufacturers-standard-halfords-single-pack Please note the illumination was not great new from factory. fendervg 32 Posted March 31, 2019 You can get a green LED back light strip that illuminates each dial individually - easy to fit and just needs to be wired in with a resistor to earth and live. I think Spoonfed Tuning is the company. As said above, the original is not great - it's just an incandescent bulb in the center and then a complicated arrangement of clear plastic piping to transmit it to the sides. thesingh 0 Posted March 31, 2019 Thanks mate. Spoonfed only have late style with aircon. Does anyone know the difference?
fendervg 32 Posted April 1, 2019 Are you sure? They used to do slider and round dial versions, unless they are out of stock. I bought a set late last year. https://www.spoonfedtuning.com/collections/corrado/products/corrado-early-hvac-illumination-set - you just need to choose your options, the pics show the different versions. The a/c version would be specific to US/Canada cars, as UK cars had a different system fitted. You'll also need one of these: https://www.spoonfedtuning.com/collections/corrado/products/vr6-g60-gauge-face-power-supply
fla 9 Posted April 1, 2019 you can make up a similar panel using an EL sheet, which then just needs to be cut out. Its about £15 or so. The inverter can be bought for about £5, so those prices are more than a bit high, i would say. I think there was also some issue with the spoonfed guy being abusive to one of our forum members a few years back so he got banned..
fendervg 32 Posted April 1, 2019 Agreed - I guess the extra cost is just for the finished product, you can make it up yourself for less if handy at that sort of thing. I'm fully aware that the seller was banned as a forum user, and he is no longer active on here, but everyone is free to do business with whoever they like if they see a product that suits their needs - personalities aside, some of the products like the 70mm front splitter are excellent, if a bit overprices. This shouldn't be taken as an advertisement/endorsement of any kind btw - if I was just trying to help the OP.
thesingh 0 Posted April 1, 2019 They sold out off non air con one otherwise if be happy to pay for the finish product. I dont mind doing a bit of DIY projects, but the guide I saw, a few months ago, I did not understand the electric part of it. I suppose i can revisit it. Is this the correct EL lights? https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F302900154544 What should i search for when looking for the inverter?
