Lumpy 8v

Recommended Posts

Afternoon all,

So my 53i or l whatever it is lol is running a little lumpy as it warms up, it cut out and couldn't be restarted easily, the revs have a tendency to hang, on occasion, a facebook group member suggested a throttle body clean, I've not had a chance yet, read the fault codes ended up with g45 00285 abs sensor can't clear that so assuming its a hard latch, g19 00552 potentiometer for air flow and intake air temp g42 00525, I've managed to clear these codes but the car was starting get a bit cough spluttery had only been running maybe 5 mins, any experts out there? or has anyone seen this before, don't want to aimless change parts. Cleaned out the idle control valve seems fine to me. Thanks all!

Code 00285 - Ross-Tech Wiki (ross-tech.com) ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Front Right (G45)

This wont cause your lumpy running, but could be caused by a bad sensor or a wiring problem.

Be cautious with this as I replaced the sensor on my car with a new one and I still kept getting this error code. I checked the wiring and all seemed ok - I was getting a resistance of 1200 Ohms for the sensor. A few months of headscratching and dithering I bought another sensor with a resistance of 1500 Ohms and all is now well with my ABS system.

Code 00525 - Ross-Tech Wiki (ross-tech.com) Lambda Sensor (G39)

It may not necessarily be a faulty sensor, but something else may be wrong and this is a symptom - rather than the cause.

Code 00552 Volume air flow (VAF) sensor

I can't find much on this code, so probably an intake leak, or could be a wiring problem or a fault sensor?

On the ABS error - could be the sensor or the ring, so possibly worth replacing both - and invariable the other side will go soon afterwards. Only pain is that to replace the rings the hub has to come off, or on the rear the disc - which is why the front ones rarely get replaced.

00552 is the MAF - could be a vacuum leak, wiring to the MAF or the MAF is on it's way out - if you can get hold of a known good one, it's worth simply swapping it out - then again I don't know how much 8v ones cost, it mightn't be too bad.
