Engine rubber banding (PG engine)

Recommended Posts

I am experiencing rubber banding while cruising at low revs. It's more severe in second than higher gears and seems to be getting worse with use.

There is no loss of power or running issues when I open it up though.

I know it's impossible to diagnose online , but I just wondered if anyone had experienced similar and can suggest a few areas I could check over before opening the wallet again.

Thanks chaps.

The revs don't surge if that's what you mean?

Not sure if rubber banding is the correct term, I can feel the engine rocking back and forth as it's happening.

Its probably the hardest thing to diagnose if its only when being driven and under load?

Ignition

Fuel

Engine / gearbox mounts

Try and watch the tacho when the issue is happening to see if it drops to zero.

Checking battery connection, main engine earth connections for cleanliness and security.

Make sure the fuel and ecu relays are pushed all the way in / pins are clean.

Wiggle the ignition key to try and replicate the fault

I've never heard of rubber banding 😁, but if you think the engine is moving, check it parked up. Rev the car with the bonnet open and watch what it does 👍

Sorry chaps, I don't really know how to describe it any better.

Thanks for the tips though, I will get it serviced and re-tuned and see how it is after that.
