Restoration Build Project Red Corrado

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Had the vehicle for 13 years this year... sitting in a storage for about 10 years, I hadn't started it in 6 years. Some fresh fuel... and it started first turn of the key - couldnt believe it. That decided the fate of the car - it had to be kept. I now have the space to work on it again. My plan is to get the whole underside sorted, fix all the rust and clean the underside ... it is proving to be a big job. These cars are very well undersealed from factory, but with the dirt and moisture in the UK and if its not cleaned, its inevitable.... rust

The bits of rust that I am not cutting out, I am treating it with a rust remover. Really recomend the Bilt Hammer Products. Surfex HD for removing all the grime on the underside, you mix this with water as per your requirements. And the Deox-Gel for removing rust. I am putting the Deox-Gel on multiple times to remove the pitted rust.

Its gonna be a long road to get this all cleaned up, and new metal put in.

thanks ChrisL, if you have any other products/ recomendations - I am all ears! I am currently using a brass brush the size of a toothbrush and srubbing the underside with the Surfex HD, then wiping with sponge kitchen scrubers.

thanks Chris! its good to get inspiration. Ah, almost neat.... my mixtures measures are getting stronger each time - seems to be better for getting the stuff off. Yours looks great, nice work, I bet it was a good feeling once it was done.

Good luck with the rebuild and don't get any on that floor. Chris is the man to get inspiration from, just look at his thread.  His engine is better than new, how the hell can that happen!!

You kept it this long for a reason, so enjoy the ups and downs that are coming  👍

Slow progress but great results. It's not nice working on your back on a car on axle stands, great efforts and much respect having been there and currently there again myself on mine!

thanks Matt and Cressa, I think I will have spent more time on my back underneath a Corrado, than driving one!

I got the tank return lines replaced. Also removed all the rust and paint off the metal filler neck and painted with an enamel paint.

Slowly making progress ...... removing all the rust with the Deox Gel on the underside.  Gravity is not in your favor so it takes about 7 goes with any steel that is pitted. If you want to remove all the rust.
