Jim 2 Posted September 9, 2004 Welcome to the forum :) Either them or German, Swedish, French @ http://www.gsfcarparts.com Definately the cheapest you'll be able to get one. Oh, and make sure you use genuine VAG coolant (G12+) and not some generic antifreeze.
vwcr 0 Posted September 9, 2004 ok cool why u recommend that coolent ?? Best place to get it??
Jim 2 Posted September 9, 2004 Well VW G12+ is formulated especially by VW for their own engines. Its the only type of coolant your engine should ever see. It doesn't cost much more than any other coolant, so theres no real reason not to use it! Should be able to pick up genuine G12+ from German Swedish French Car Parts, or from your local friendly VW Dealer's parts department :)
vwcr 0 Posted September 9, 2004 If i do a search on http://www.eurocarparts.com For g12+ bring up red coolant mk3 golf that the right stuff or not????
Jim 2 Posted September 9, 2004 Pretty sure G12+ is red but - might be worth giving them a call just to make sure you get the right stuff. If you get regular G12 for some reason, and your car WAS running on G11 before, the two will mix and gel / block your coolant system. You need G12+ to ensure that this doesn't happen so don't leave it down to chance!
vwcr 0 Posted September 9, 2004 Well thing is am sure its been running on off the shelf anti freeze and since the rad has leak all over should be ok. What i will do is get some system flush and flush the lot then put the g12 in should then be ok. What u reckon?/
Henny 0 Posted September 9, 2004 just flush it through with a hose pipe for a few minutes before you re-seal the sytem and fill it up... that'll clean it out enough to make sure that the G12+ goes in OK...
kvwloon 0 Posted September 9, 2004 As said, but worth emphasising, do no't get palmed off with G12, get G12PLUS !
vwcr 0 Posted September 10, 2004 Just to let you all know i just rang my VW Dealer about g12+ coolant to be told there use to be 2 now there is only one. Which is £5.46 for a 1 1/2 ltr bottle inc VAT So will go get a couple of bottles and see what i get
Henny 0 Posted September 10, 2004 yeah, G11 and G12 have BOTH been phased out and replaced with G12+ Your dealer meant there used to be 2 types of G12, normal and +... 8)

Euro parts seams good 203440171 RADIATOR GO2/JE2 1.6 83-91/16v £48.37 Thanks Nope, that rad is not a 16v one, it's simply the same dimensions, ECP have got this wrong  The 16v one has more cross tubes and cools better but is about 115 quid  You can get away with the 8v carb rad as it doesn't get too hot in this country generally, but it is the wrong part for the car technically.
