Vmax 0 Posted May 18, 2003 Since last Monday, it's been getting harder and harder to find a gear in my VR6. The gearchange used to be really fluid, but it's been getting progressively harder to select any gear at all. The clutch now has about 50% dead travel, there is only resistance after pressing the pedal halfway down. Anyone got any suggestions as to what the problem is - the car's going into the garage in the next week, so would appreciate any ideas on what's up. Is it likely to just be the clutch cable that needs replaced, or does it look like I need a whole new clutch :shock: ? vr6storm 0 Posted May 18, 2003 as its a hydraulic clutch you have jamie you shouldn't need a clutch cable.....but it could be maybe the gear-linkage or the clutch master cylinder....not too expensive but still not cheap either though Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Rams 0 Posted May 19, 2003 Hi mate One thing I would get them to check is the gear box fluid, I recently had mine done, the level wasnt that low but I told them to drain the fluid and put new stuff in and when the fluid poured out it was really thin... So put some nice new iol in there and that will help! The gear linkages also have a habbit of sreaching so they cables may need tightening or even replaced and the seperators that have sort of ball joints that the plastic separators can get worn, they are very cheap and make the box feel nice and crisp. Scott 0 Posted May 19, 2003 I had the linkages adjusted, gearbox oil changed and also changed the fluid between brake master res. / clutch slave and slave cylinder and its made a heck of a difference..... a slight push is all that is needed now :D But from what you say about pedal travel and gears hard to find I would suggest the clutch might be on way out.... £300 job from specialist. Spot on! :thumb right: Just had the slave cylinder replaced today, apparently it had been leaking, so that's why the clutch became so tricky.
