  1. Those are the lights im after. If you get rid can I have first refusal? PLEEZ! If you decide to keep them on, where did you get them cos i've only seen them on awesomeGTI for around 250 notes???
  2. You're talking about 2 separate things here. Insurance or at least motor insurance is based on the term of indemnity, i.e. Your are insured for the value of what you own, not what it costs to replace it. Lets say you buy a leather jacket and insure it under an indemnity policy. After 2 years igets stolen from your car, you insurers will not give you enough to get a new leather jacket cos thats not what was stolen. Likewise, if your car is written off (repairs will cost more than the value of the vehicle) you are not entitled under your policy to have it repaired otherwise you are benefitting from your insurance policy (betterment). If you choose to sue a TP for writing your car off it is highly unlikely that a judge would sustain a claim for more than the cost of your loss.
  3. Not really it doesnt work quite like that. Liability has little to do with processing a Total loss. If the accident is not your fault you can claim from the third party's insurance directly, and hope that their engineer values your car at a high pre accident value. Most insurers use parkers and/or glasses and then add or subtract on the basis of mileage, age and condition. Problem is a third party insurer wont really care if you complain cos you aint their client. The best way is usually arguing loads till your insurance co get bored, remember it costs nearly £25 for them to send you a letter, so chances are they will cave eventually.
  4. Thanks for that, but did you really need two full stops?
  5. Im not alone then, thank god! This might be worth a thread. "Whats your most hated misuse of grammer" I really hope 'misuse' is one word or im in for some major embarresment.
  6. Some people just have to pronounce things wrong, they do it on purpose to annoy people like me who are genetically programmed to correct others. Its like when people say Pacific instead of specific and ekscaped instead of escaped. Its called being thick. I'll get off my soap box now!
  7. Thats me! There's so many people out there who seem unable to pronounce the word Corrado I thought i would make it easier for them. No one seems to know what it is anyway, damn heathens!
  8. If its a cat C or D you have the right to retain the salvage, B it can only be sold for parts and A is basically game over. You do not have to accept the offer, here's what I did when they wrote mine off. As mentioned before get on autotrader find same model, similar mileage, similar age, and send it all in explaining that it is a rare car, FSH if you have it, anything to big the car up basically. I also included in my letter that I was really disappointed with the way my claim was handled blah, blah, blah, and I would be going to the financial ombudsman if they didnt increase the offer. The reason for this is that it costs your insurers £750 just to defend a claim to the ombudsman, they have to pay this and then they may have to increase their offer as well! With this in mind you are quite likely to get a higher offer. Also note that if you receive a cheque from them this is not the end of it as they have to have a signed acceptance of the offer to close the file. Doing this got me another £1100.00 out of my company. This is not set in stone, I cannot guarentee you will get more.
  9. I think I can help you with this, i changed my wheel for a MOMO. Between the wheel and the control stalks is the boss, the adaptor that allows you to fit a non standard wheel to the car. The end of the boss that fixes to the steerin column (not steering wheel side) has a small plastic stalk that sicks out from its surface, this is to cancel the turn signal once you turn the wheel back to the centre. I believe this is what is making the scraping noise as mine did the same. The wheel should be straight forward enough to remove from the boss, (its hard to advise as there are many after market wheels out there, mine has six allen key bolts under the horn cover) the boss is then attached to the steering column by (i think) a 19mm nut, remove this and remove the boss, make sure that the stalk on the boss is pushed in all the way and is on the correct side and replace boss and wheel. This should sort the problem. Make sure the wheels are dead straight before removing the steering wheel other wise it may be hard to get it back on exactly straight. If it doesn't cure it or you cant be bothered with the hassle its not a serious problem.
  10. Apologies, im with ya. In which case try some high grade sandpaper cos its black underneath! Now if you'll excuse me I think i've left the oven on.
  11. Why not just buy a black badge. They are the same as the passat ones, I got mine for 4 quid from VW so you must be able to pick one up somewhere for the price of a can of spray paint. It allows you to go back to standard if you so desire aswell.
  12. I changed the rear badge on my J reg G60 and my M reg VR and they both had 2 holes not 4. Steve you're not getting confused with that fiesta are ya!?
  13. Can somone explain how this works????
  14. got it sorted cheers folks!
  15. Im doing this right now. I know there are loads of people asking how to remove their front bumper, but I just want to make absolutley sure. I have to remove the two front and rear bolts on the cross member on either side?? Its just that looking under the car it doesnt appear that they attach to the bumper. I am replacing mine and it just seems a lot of bolt undoing for a big bit of plastic???

    Clutches

I will be taking my car up to the VW maintainence mecca of stealth racing in the coming months for timing chain/tesioner/clutch renewal. My question is this. Will i benefit from an upgrade in clutch, I know there are many companies who supply performance clutches and the like but will any of them make a real difference, if so what will that difference be, is it worth the cost or should I just stick with the VW one?
  17. Mine is a passat one from VW 4 squid Mine is late though so may be diff
  18. all i know is they put it up for a competition prize and some spawny punk won it. would be nice to see it again tho!
  19. Kev. It was on the one way system that i saw it on your way home! It was black of very dark grey. I was tempted to get her to pull over but I think she would have thought me rather sad, and besides there was nowhere to stop. Im on a mission now though.
  20. Yeah my first reaction was one of surprise really. It took me a few seconds before I realised I liked it. It was funny though cos it was being driven by a bird and there I was checking out the car and as she tried to look cool whilst pulling away kerbed her alloys a treat. I had to laugh. Bloody nice interior though.
  21. I saw a VR6 today with a red leather interior. Dash, seats the works. News to me! Did anyone know about this?? It was a K plate but looked like a PP so not 100% on age. New shape though Comments?
  22. How much do you pay Mr Haywire. Of couse I would need to make the relevant adjustments for lack of no claims and... ahem.... a speeding conviction. Damit! (if you dont mind me asking) Are they reasonable though?
  23. That should have not affected his insurance premium as he is no more a motoring risk with an assault conviction. Premiums are calculated on your driving record, the car you drive and the area you live. They then look at annual mileage, intended uses and such like, the logic being that if you use your vehicle more then the chance of you having an accident is higher. The penalty for non disclosure varies insurer to insurerbut most will ask that you pay an additional premium but still deal with the claim. If they are assholes or depending on how much of an issue the non disclosure has caused they may throw the claim out or cancel the policy. I think either your mate was lying or he is with a very strange insurance co. But that may be just me
