Went and got this done today at Guildford Tyres in Gatwick, just off the A23 near Tesco. Their number is 01293 786622. Cost me £25 to get the alignment done. One thing I will say is make sure your track rod ends/other bolts required for the alignment are not seized. They weren't able to use any heat as they were too close to a petrol station. I gave Austec a yell, and although their service was more complete - 4 wheel geometry - the works etc.. It was nearly 5 times more expensive - £117.50!

Ouch, jammed! Blimey. Umm, 17mm allen socket and a heee-uge breaker bar not going to cover it?
-
Yep, think that was pretty much it. Just wanted to know as me Dad was going to grab a couple of spanners from the workshop on the way home. Long story short, went to get my alignment done today and the garage said they couldn't get the bolts off without heating them. Except they weren't allowed to use oxy-acl as they were too close to a petrol station. Anyway, cracked it now - thanks for that.

Reeeeeal easy one, no bombs on buses, and sadly no Sandra Bullock (or Keanu Reaves for the ladies). Can anyone remember the spanner size required for the track rod ends? Thanks :D

This is a dark day, the corradowales we knew is gone... replaced by a... a... non double-entendre slinging politically correct dude... *snif* Nice C, drop it - you won't regret it. :D
-
A lot better thanks, although I'm only happy looking at from the back given the side "imperfections" Once the bodywork is sorted, I'm going to look at getting some rims on there ASAP. Those sebrings are horrible, knackered, scuffed, scraped and downright crap. Winter reufen!

Yeah does a bit  Fortunately you can't see any of the green now it's back on the ground with wheels!

Finally got around to fitting my suspension today, after about a year of waiting! 40mm drop makes such a difference, very pleased with the results overall. It's sooo much easier doing these jobs when you've got a proper workshop, ramps, airline etc.. to hand - I'm eternally endebted to the guy that allowed me to use it! Saw a very nice camper van there too, not to mention some glorious old e-types. Few pics in here...

Today I fitted new wheel bearings all round, new pads discs all round, new ball joints, drop links, wishbone bushes, and swore because we didn't have a spring compressor. Tomorrow, I will be sourcing a spring compressor and fitting my susp! I will also continue cursing the fool in Oxford who promised me a door and wing, and then sold the door today! LIVID!

So maybe altering the final drive in a 2.0 8V is the way to go? I've heard that the ratios on the G60 box are all wrong for the 16V... :?
-
That's good to know, I'll have a look for one of those too. Thanks for the info.

Defo one for the experts! Thanks for the information, I shall scour ze web for a valver's box. C'mon corradowales I dares ya!
-
I'm going to disappear into the car park to give my box a good looking over, I think I might have to have a poke around in the darker regions of said box as I'm not sure what I'm looking for. /double entendre mode off I think I've got the cable change box, there are 2 gatored connections going into a box on't gb... Wouldn't surprise me though, it's an oldie for sure. What does the bearing preload do/how is it set? I'm guessing the with a special VW tool that costs shedloads..!

Ah, it is the 02A... Cool, thanks for clearing that up. I was toying with sourcing a recon, or sourcing a low milage one from a scrappy. Mine is 'orrible and notchy, and just downright worn. Have done all the usuals with oil changes, slave cyls etc.. and it's still 'orrible. To be honest with you, the conecpt of opening up a gearbox terrifies me and sounds faaar too expensive a job to attempt with no experience. I'm sure corradowales will be along soon enough to juice your gaping double entendre up there soon too  Cheers

I've been trying to read into this a little more, and so far haven't turned up a lot. Just wondering if anyone could answer the following please? Are the early/late - KR/9A gearboxes the same? What code(s) are they if they're different? Are there any alternatives to the KR gb? Roughly what power is the KR gb good for? Thanks in advance :D

I'm just about to fit the Weitec kit to mine tomorrow, I'll let you know if you want. Although I did get the comfort kit from C&R which has VR6 mounts, different bump stops etc.. so the lot came to £350 or there abouts. From what I've heard about them, they are a good buy for the money - but have heard better things about the Konis. Hey ho.

I'd rather have an Elise S2 anyday, just as I prefer the styling (and the Loads Of Trouble Usually Serious badge) Combine that with the Turbo Technics conversion and that's pretty much what I'd buy first if I won the lottery. Simple lad me. Don't get me wrong though, a VX is still a sweet car - it does share a chassis after all
-
Small world, guy at work has a glorious yellow short wheel base quattro with an S2 transplant - absolutely spanking car. OZ SuperT's, perfect height, interior spot on - everything. I believe it used to belong to Kim once upon a time...
-
Is that Quattro Sport Kim Collins? ta
-
Cue Mr Haywire... I think Kev had a MK2 once upon a time with something similar in it, he's probably yer best bet for the ins and outs.

Neither does my old dear, bless her. She's quite content with it being a lot easier to get into a parking space. You should have heard her when she parked it between two cars a la the advert... man, she went on and on and on...

Knackered starter motor, or on the way out possibly?

Me ol' Dear just bought a new Smart Car Brabus, which initially I ripped into her for. "Where's the batteries go? Isn't that in the toy section of the Argos catalogue? Where's your other rollerskate gone? etc.." Much laughs to be had, however... ...she totally shut me up when she gave me the keys. It's easy to drive, turns on a button and for the size of the lump in it has a fair amount of poke. Nice little features in the cockpit too, intuitive layout and some natty features like tiptronic shifters and the like. Cool sunroof too, just folds away and the whole roof of the car disappears. The Smart car has a fair bit of comedy surrounding it, and nobody seems to take it too seriously - but for in and around town driving it's superb.
