  1. Likewise. I'm not adverse to cranking it up on the motorway, need to drown out the drone and of recent the increasingly annoying wheel bearing rumble! There's no need for it around town, unless you're driving a Corsa/Nova/Twatwagon. Even then it's only so people can follow you home and strip your car of the stereo which is worth 10 times more than said Twatwagon.
  2. It no worky... It does if you browse to the directory below the file, right click and "save as". edit - nope, it doesn't play in quicktime either :( edit edit - yes it does, i didn't rename it. i think my career in IT is doomed. :D edit edit edit - **** me that's fast. What's under the bonnet - it does 120-180 in like 7 seconds!
  3. Get some spare switches from a breaker, or ebay and practice - my plan anyways! That way yer car doesn't suffer :)
  4. Heheh, only kidding. On a more serious note, was going to attempt it meself. Looks pretty do-able, provided you get the right LED's and have a fairly steady soldering hand. LED's are available from http://ultraleds.co.uk/ and Dub Design Industries if you fancy a crack.

    16v cam timing

I'm dreading any screw ups on a Saturday arvo, which is surely the only chance I'm going to get on mine. Methinks I'd be calling in sick on Monday to make a trip to the stealer! Some damn handy information in this thread!
  6. I would love to drop a 1.8T in there, more than anything. Something about the uniqueness of an engine conversion, and the idea of bringing an engine bay up to speed that really appeals to me - however the cost of which certainly doesn't! Well, I've got a nice straight valver with a grumpy engine. Soon to have port and polished rebuilt top end to stop said strop!

    16v cam timing

Ouch, that sounds like a costly cock up. Will certainly bear that in mind, thanks for the pointer.
  8. Haha, I wish! Sounds like an awful lot of hassle to "modernise" the KR's injection system, I can see why the 1.8T conversion has been so popular now. Thanks guys, you've answered my question with bells on. Nice one. :D

    16v cam timing

Am I right in thinking all the torque settings for the KR are in the Passat Haynes manual?
  10. nah, it's an early valver. probably not so much a bad thing - one less thing to replace/repair :)
  11. 136bhp IIRC. Whatever it was it was the same as the 1.8 16v, but the extra displacement was added to compensate for the cat. hth randal
  12. Ah haaaa, gotcha. What does your v-sam do with regards to this?
  13. Yeah, the metering head is a bit of a pain. Like coullstar says, you can get a panel filter and drill the bottom of the box. Or do a cold air duct mod using some silver piping and kitchen sink plug hole and a circular drill bit saw.
  14. A friend and I have been talking about VW and Honda engines, and how things are done differently - don't worry this isn't turning into a debate! Anyway... I mentioned I have high lift cams in mine, and he said "have you had a remap to take advantage?" My response to that was - "I'm pretty sure the KR ECU isn't mappable, as the KJet injection system is mechanical" So given that engine fundamentals are the same, how is a "remap" achieved on the KR lumps to take advantage of things like cams, porting etc...? ta randal
  15. Check out the rear end on that... mmmm :D Very nice, very nice indeedy.
  16. I'm hoping so, don't want to get caught out with this so I'm taking every precaution. Reason being it's my daily driver, and I'm doing the work over the weekend - perfect time for GSF and VW parts to be well, closed! randal
  17. Oh yes, I'm betting that 15 years of driving and weather is going to have made some of those bolts an absolute arse to deal with. Fortunately I have access to a well stocked workshop with air lines, oxy acetaline, and mucho mucho toolage. :D
  18. Next week, ze rado is getting some new shocks/springs etc.. (finally) and a 40mm drop. The kit comprises of everything needed, vr6 top mounts to mk3 golf bump stops and every other component that C&R drop into the Weitec kit with comfort pack. Since I'm going to be getting creative I've also plucked: *new discs and pads all roung (brembo max+brembo rears with green stuff for the front and vw pads for the rear) *new wheel bearings all round *wishbone bushes front and rear *ARB bushes and drop links Is there anything I've missed as I have this nasty feeling I have! Thanks in advance randal
  19. I dunno, motorised spuds do sound like a fair amount of laughs. Here's to NOS'd swede.
  20. Score another point for GIXXERUK :D Nice one!
  21. You do my switches for me?? SOLD! Will be cold hard cash too :D
  22. I'll be removing the lot when the head comes off, so I figured that's a good a time as any.
  23. Oooo, 34.3mpg - quite happy with that :D
  24. Best tank I managed was 412 miles, then ran out 100 yards from the petrol station. Anyone know the capacity of the early valver's tank off the top of their head?
