I drove it in and my friend had to drive right to the other end of the car park to have a wee - she has dodgy legs bless her
-
That will be the top mounts then I guess.

Yes, I read that thread on here when it was talked about, though I have forgotten the contents of it

I have been hanging around here for a little while now, already have a project MK2 VR6 (in bits still), but after gettting peed off driving round in something underpowered I took the plunge on thursday afternoon and bought this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2488158124 Went and picked it up on saturday morning and after cursing myself all the way there for buying something like this on impulse everything hasnt turned out too bad. Found out that it had an engine rebuild a couple of years back with a stack of receipts for it, and lots of other history beside. Got a spare door to try and sort the one out with a dent, a hardly used Bentley manual and everything electrical works as well. There are some slight niggles with it, but more of those in a minute. The seller was honest about it all, and it seems an honest car, still in the same town as registered in 1992, the warning triangle and first aid box are still there, and it seems to have worn its miles well. One of the problems mentioned in the advert was the oil leak. It has recently had a rocker gasket change, but it still looked a little wet in that area. But a lot of the oil seemed to be coming from the oil pressure switches on the filter head. Having some VR6 spares was going to come in handy I think. The wishbone bushes were also giving some trouble appearing to be worn, and the subsequent drive home revealled some movement in the wheels. Later on I had a check with the wheel in the air and it was really bad, something seriously wrong, especially as it had powerflex bushes in there from a previous replacement job. Once I managed to get the wishbone out, it became imediately obvious that they were the wrong bushes, for a MK2 Golf in fact. Good job I had a spare set of wishbones with new powerflex bushes in already then. I also had VAG-COM connected to see if there were any fault codes coming up - nothing there. It was a good job that I checked the dizzy though, the electrical connecter inside had been glued in and some of the glue was floating inside causing the connected to come loose and a wire to start being rubbed. A good secondhand one of those, and it seemed better, but I still think that the plugs and leads should be changed to make sure all is well (the leads look a bit past it) Also since then I have taken off the K&N cone and refitted the original airbox, and made sure that the throttle is getting all the travel from the cable (altered the position of the clip that holds it in place next to the TB) I already have some mods and remedial work lined up - A shrick manifold is being considered, I already have one waiting to go onto my other VR6 engine, so it looks like I may have to find another. 288mm brakes are going to go on, I have the whole kit ready and waiting Some new wheels (the MK3 16v ones already on there dont clear 288mm calipers) Neuspeed ARB's will be going on (already have them) Maybe some suspension, if Eibach Golf VR6 springs are interchangeable onto a Corrado (anyone?) Apart from that, its going to be a drive it and love it affair I think

And that particular MK2 VR (pola's) has good links to this forum and one particular member - its got the heart and lungs from Phat VR6's old sh!tbox racer

I seem to have a major problem with buying cars, 95% of them being VW's To date I have owned in the past three years A plate MK1 GTi 2l 8v in Lhasa Green - written off, someone pulled out in front of me F plate MK2 16v 3dr in Atlas, had that until a couple of weeks ago, given to a mate as a very bare rolling shell A plate MK1 Campaign in Helios Blue, very original and straight, sold it because I didnt feel comfortable in a MK1 after the above accident H plate MK2 16v 5 dr in Royal Blue Met, got rid of this after a few months because it was getting to be a money pit F plate MK2 16v 3 dr in Black, got it for a runaround whilst I rebuilt my other 16v as a trackcar J plate MK2 8v in metallic black one previous owner, not far off perfect (for sale ) J plate MK2 8v in Oak Green had a chequered history, but with a bit of mechanical work and a 2l 16v conversion was a flier - this got stolen from outside my house German Jetta, currently being rebuilt H plate Jetta syncro in silver- currently being worked on by a mate, 20v N/A that I had and on carbs, though I havent a clue what I'm going to do with it G plate Jetta 16v in Atlas Grey, bought so that I could have fun in Germany going to the 'ring with CGTI And now have just agreed to buy another VW (There is the small matter of a Mini that I own as well, but that aint ever being sold) So, is that a lot? Do I have an addiction?

If its an 87 8v, its highly probable that its a K-Jet, digipants 8v's didnt start till later on in the models life
-
Change the inlet cam only, job done. Edited to say, change the above from the 1.8, and then install as is
-
what version have you got now? 1.8 or 2l? What are you buying? Block, or complete engine?
-
Now that would be just lush 8)
-
I need to know what they are worth as I am tempted to go down a different route with my lump. I already have a different box to rebuild/modify, a different head, and access to a block that could do with a rebuild - read enlarge :D Just trying to work out the viability, hence needing to know the worth of it in the current market
-
Not 24v, invested too much time and money
-
What type of front seats are you after?? I sold a complete blk leather Corrado int, excpet for the front heated seats, and by that time that had cost me less than £200. I know I could have made a lot more than that for them. The seats would have to be something special to beat the C blk leathers
-
2.9 VR engine, complete with box. Done 65K miles, had the chain guides replaced, known to be a good lump Only missing the TB, otherwise complete

OK, I'm not going to get into an arguement here....... You are correct in saying there are significant differences between the head of a KR and ABF, but the flow characteristics of the ports when worked will see very little difference to the same work done on a KR head. Yes the differences in the valves cannot be discounted, but as a generalisation in the amount of air that it moves there isnt a significant difference. I would say that the ABF engine controlled by its OE management is a completely different kettle of fish to a ABF engine on K-jet as often done in a MK2 Golf. I have had both in a MK2 Golf, and would say that there are good and bad points for each. Putting the ABF and a 2L with KR head on the same injection will prove there is very little difference As a side note, the information that I got regarding this was from the man who ports heads for C&R, Stealth, TSR, Grant motorsport et al. He also is the major engineer for headwork for the VW Cup entrants
-
What model seats have you in yours? Full electrics working?? If you had a choice what model seats would you buy?? Cheers Chris
-
I dont want to argue with you here, but uk KR, 9A, and ABF heads all had the same cast number of 051. The very early KR had a cast number of 027, but there is very little difference between the casts. There are obvious porting differences between the 9A and KR heads, and the ABF head has slight differences with the valve stem length and actual size, but I have it on good engineering authority that no particular version is a lot better than the others
-
The rears are three point adjustable, the fronts are fixed
-
He's right :) I know of a 9A in a MK2 with the 9A head, KR inlet cam, and 42mm inlet which has seen over 170bhp on Stealths rollers on many occasions. A very good value mod the 2L bottom end
-
Thats been advertised on PVW right? £350 is a good price, especially if you here is running and it has proof of mileage and servicing
-
The ABF was never fitted to the Corrado, so it will definitely be the 9A engine
-
See above. Any engine mods over standard need to be mapped Paul. You know that, so go get that AMD chipped ECU off your mate and try it then. Failing that you need to get someone to map yours properly. Then decide if its worth it
-
Check the expansion cap, they are reknowned for not sealing properly
-
Yes Been very busy of late but I havent forgotten.
