The same 288mm calipers and carriers are used on a lot of the MK4 Golf range - the 312 4 motion brakes use the same caliper and pad, just a different carrier Kev - the master cylinder may be tired on yours, unfortunately I dont beleive that there is a MK4 master cylinder that will fit, as the VR is a specific type, the mounting holes are not horizontal, they are at an angle - I looked into this in detail for my other VW's Brembo brakes. Pity the master cylinder for a VR is circa £120  I believe that the fitment of the servo is completely different as well......

not quite, the manifolds - inlet and exhaust - are different on the A3 version. I have seen the two together - I know the guy selling the engine, and had an R32 motor next to it to compare. The Exhaust manifiold and flexi's etc look the bollards, really is a work of art, and its a standard part!

In 15hrs? I cant work that quickly unfortunately. :| In that time I took the spare block that I had set aside for my project, added all the ancillaries to it, cleaned it up, changed the sump over, and rebuilt the head – well changed a valve which has piston stuck to it, and lapped them all in. Changed all the chains etc. Assembled it all back together, fitted it back in, changed the injector and fired it up. I also changed the plugs whilst I was at it. The BERU ones I got from C&R recently and were in the engine didn’t look very good, so Bosch platinums went in. So far so good, I must have done the best part of 200 miles since it went in, no problems as yet – I hope that it stays that way

I think its harsh to say that my engine was neglected Kev. Its very hard to know when an injector isn’t doing its job properly, and as you can see from above, when it doesn’t the results are catastrophic. The injector on that cylinder has been changed. I wouldn’t profess to be a VR expert, but an engine that doesn’t blow any kind of smoke under any situation would be thought to be a good unit. This is what mine was like Having now replaced the bottom end, I know that the chains and guides are all good as they have been replaced. I was fortunate enough to be in the position of having everything at hand as I am building a VR for my project car which was going to require these bits. It just means that I now have to replace them. I also took the opportunity to change to the solid plastic MK4 12v upper guide as well. Did you know that 96 on Sharan’s use these bits along with the MK4 12v metal head gasket? (engine code AMY from memory) I don’t know what happened to the other block, the one with cracks in. I suspect that its got very hot, either with the oil or water, and that happening is through neglect or whatever else you would like to call it

had to share what I have seen with two seperate VR bottom ends I have worked on this week never seen either in this sort of state before The knackered piston pictures came out of my rado yesterday. Dont quite know what caused it, but I thought it was the head gasket till he head came off Big up to Matt and Nick and Designadubs for sorting me out a new bottom end for it. One rebuild later (and 15 hours of work) and I drove it home. In at 10 am monday morning, running again at 01.30 early hours of tuesday The corrado now goes like a train :D choo choo  The last pics shows the block that has donated its Schrick BVH for my other project. The head is fine, which is more than can be said for the block

216 Injectors are what I have, from the 2.5L Diesel van. I have a good friend who works at VW in the parts dept, and they are over £650 new Good job I didnt even pay a third of that. The figures of 150 and 230lb ft are from Simon......hopefully get it remapped before christmas with any luck

Mines a 90 brake, so non variable vane turbo. A pity but I couldnt get hold of a 110 at the time. Its a MK4 golf engine tho, so should last a while. Just got the wiring to do, sort the boost pipes, and make sure all is tickety boo for a while before I start modding it. I've been speaking to Simon Cooper from Central VWAudi a lot about this, what he doesnt know isnt worth knowing. After his advice I already have the uprated injectors ready to put in, got them for a really cheap price as well! :D I cant wait to drive it when its done, I reckon with the torque it will put out the driving experience wont be too far removed from my VR in terms of the shove in the back when the foot is planted

I'm in the process of building a MK2 TDI (non PD) diesel at the moment for the very reason of running costs because of the miles I do. WIth a few hundred quid I am looking to get 150 brake and more importantly, 230lb ft of torque from it.

The Colways are crap cos they are based on a road tyre sidewall and are as soft as anything. Try a proper tyre, Khumo, Yokohama etc. You need to speak to a proper dealer to be able to get the best advice on what type etc for your application, ie if its a syncro, big power, type of handling characteristics, and always important, the weight of the car

First FD is for gears 1-4, the 2nd FD is for gears 5 and 6 I bought a Cupra R O2M for my still born track car because of the shortish and close stacked gearing. Still got it in my garage Have a look on vwvortex, I'm sure someone there will have the gear ratios for the 4-mo box, or failing that you can get the gearing from ETKA if you know someone with a copy

if using the MK4 rear disc then you need the MK4 rear pads, the disc is thinner and the pads wider than standard fitment. If you you your existing discs and MK4 calipers then use MK3 GTI/VR6 rear pads - they have the best sized thickness for correct fitment Have a search on here, Kev did it recently

I can take a pic of a loom if that helps?

Polished inlet manifold without the TB? A mate of mine wants to by my polished one for his early 2.8 as I shall be fitting my schrick, but I dont have a clue what to ask for it - anyone give me a ballpark figure please? Cheers Chris
-
That is one of the development idea I shall be trying out on my track orientated car once I get it up and running - been wanting to try that out for ages
-
I have a non age related 3 number 3 letter plate (3+3 in trade speak I beleive) Bought it cos it relates to the area in which I grew up and it hides the age of the car, it doesnt mean anything in particular to my name

Have you got it as far as the bolts will allow Henny? This tricks normally works well on a mk2 Golf, the diameter of the bolts is 1mm thicker, so you get about 1.5 neg, but with the plus axle 18mm bolts I look to have well over 2 degrees neg Fantastic turn in even if the tracking isnt quite right Getting it sorted on Friday afternoon

Thanks, appreciated

I need to know the standard figures inc the +- for the camber and toe on the front end of a VR Corrado please Just fitted my Koni/eibach combo and desperately need to get it adjusted up. The ride is tremendously better (knackered rear shocks) but the handling is a bit skewy at the moment Ta Chris

There are some CGTI boys n gals organising to go to Donny for one of their own run days on 7th Nov if anyone fancies it. I shall be there in my Corrado VR :D

Pass, I honestly dont know. The history as I know is that it was originally on the Orange rear engined VR MK1 that Dubsport built (that subsequently went down the turbo route I believe?) Since been in a MK3 Golf VR, and now will be going on my 2.9 complete with the schricks and a MK4 12v metal head gasket I've a geabox to rebuild before the engine can go back in, but hoping to finish the project before Christmas, or at least get it to a driveable state

sp - Lhasa, the MK1 colour right?

Did you speak with Vince the effects of a BVH would have on your particular engine Kev?

I'm not sure that I have got my seating position across right dr_mat, I want the rear of the seat as far down as possible, the front being slightly raised (with a normal seat). From that I'm going to raise the front of the seat by modifying it, so increasing the angle of the tilt. I dont have the steering wheel and knee issue, an aftermarket one with boss and extension/spacer solves that :)
-
Yes but the pivot point is at the front of the seat, and that isnt high enough (the front) when the back is on the lowest setting. I'm 6ft4, with long legs, so need the seat quite far back, and low down. When the seat is in this position the front section isnt high enough to support my thighs properly

I agree with him (valver) not that I'm one to talk
