  1. Well this last month has hurt my wallet, so I'll give the garage a buzz tommorow and ask them if they can/weill do it and approx how much. Will report back when I sort something out. Cheers for everyones help =]
  2. Actually just had a though - with me not knowing enough about my C just yet, maybe you guys have an opinion on this. My steering seems absolutely cock on and sharp as a knife, it's just pissing out fluid from somewhere. Do I only really need to replace the rack when the steering starts to feel sloppy, and get new seals/gaitors fitted now (hopefully solving the problem) or is it a new rack job anyway, seeing as though it is leaking?
  3. That'd be fantastic Kev. I'd assume it's got to be leaking from the seals, so surely i'd be able to either a) get the seals from somewhere and fit them, or b) just take it to my local VW specialists and get them to replace the seals rather than the whole rack? I have searched the forum for info on this problem and from what I gathered the only viable option is to replace the rack, is this the only option? I only just bought the car, insured it and don't really wanna have to shell out another small fortune to fix this straight away! Cheers guys.
  4. I have a leaky power steering rack ('95 VR6). It has leaked since I bought the car, and now it's got to the point where i have to top it up every 3-4 days as it's pissed most of it out onto the driveway. I need to get this sorted asap. Does anyone have any tips on where to get one from, what sorta prices i'm looking at and if it would be worth getting one from say, a mark 3 golf from the scrappers (if they are the same part!) Thanks people! Chris
  5. Thanks PhatVR6, I'll give it a go, possibly this weekend if the weather gets better! Chris
  6. Anyone in the (upper class) market for a nice plate... 1 VRG £3,400 reserve http://www.dvlaregistrations.co.uk/home ... ion/p/next
  7. Sounds like an advert for Oil of Olay, but for the car. I can see the telly adverts now...!
  8. Yea, not so sure about the starter motor - sounds more belt based but i'm still unsure. I'll get someone to start the car while i stick my head under the bonnet and see if I can tell where it is coming from. Car's running sweet as Tim, have to try and remember to keep checking the oil and the power steering fluid though. Getting a Cat1 alarm fitted to it shortly (need to for insurance, plus want to anyway living round here!) and I have a nifty pager alarm thing to hook up too, which should give me more peace of mind. Got my insurance sorted properly the next day - £1540 full comp under my own name, which I was kinda pleased about (still a lot I know, but not too bad. Some companies wouldn't insure anything with my postcode! and got a £6500 quote from one company! lol Anyway, gonna take some nice piccies of the car this weekend (provided the weather is good) so i'll post the link when i get some stuff online. Anyway, back on topic (so I don't get stressed at!) - i'll let you know if I find out what the noise is. Anyone else any ideas?
  9. Mostly happens when the engine is cold, sometimes when it is started after being on a little run (semi-warm) Only happens on start up, never any other time - sounds like a belt of some sort, not sure. I can only describe as, errm, ahem *aruuuuuuha* - mid pitched noise only last for a second or so. I know it's a bit vague, but I have searched the forums for two days now and either missed similar threads, or there are none. (I expect the former!) Thanks for any help. Chris
  10. And the best quote I got was from Brentacre - £1564.70 full comp - 23, 2 years no claims living in the Bronx (Grade F*, from A to F* lol ) Quite chuffed with that, considering I paid 1450 TPFT on a little 1.6 mark1 golf cabby the other year! The most amusing quote I got today, and have ever had was £6500 fully comp!!!! I pissed myself! I can't remember who it was with though. Just thought i'd share!
  11. I work in Leeds - Just picked up my first corrado VR6 yesterday too  (From fellow forum member TimVR!) I'll definately be up for a leeds meet, or even convoying up the clubgti meets sometimes (would like to join too)
  12. Reverse lights are not required by law - they are technically only really there to help you see where you are reversing. I have found that thiis does become a pain in the arse, as no other drivers can see that you want to reverse! (My little mk1 golf cab hasn't had the reverse lights hooked up since I bought it years ago)
