  1. did my payment go through zerocool? Just checkin.
  2. doing well on these tools fella! I'll have one from ya. pm me details - if you can give me bank account details i can do an online transfer, nice and quick/painless!
  3. Thermostat Housing. For a VR if that makes a differences. Can't seem to get a price on them.
  4. I had this exact same problem, and VW robbed me blind. I'm now driving my bruvs old VR (N reg) which has the immobiliser in the key) and when he had it, this problem surfaced on a few occasions. First time he took it to a main dealer and they checked it out, said it was the fuel pump so replaced it and all was well and good for a couple of months. Then it started doing it again, so he went to a different main dealer who checked it out and said it was that coil that was mentioned earlier, so they replaced that. Then it ran for like a year with no problems until I got it. Car had been sat on the drive for a few months and I finally sorted all the documents out so I could drive it and took it to work on a morning. Drove fine all the way there then the problem started again just after I got some fuel. I had no other option but to get it towed to the garage and my veedub speciliast immediately thought it was the transponder in the key, might have needed re-coding since it was stood for a long time. So I had to get it towed to the main dealers in Leeds (Richard Alexander) and they did the work without calling me and charged me £125 for TWO FUSES to be replaced and the corresponding "looms" apparently. The two fuses they reckon they replaced were the reverse light fuse and the dash fuse (which I knew were out cos I took them out!). So i get back in the car and start it up no problems, then noticed that they haven't even put a bloody dash fuse back in it. I felt well and truly fleeced. Glad this thread is here, as i've a sneaking suspicion that it will die on me again at some point, at least now I know what to look for myself. One other thing that I found out recently was that sometimes taxi radios and mobile phone masts can interfere with immobiliser signals and cause problems on some models of cars. I was starting to think that might have been the issue.
  5. I'm hoping to change mine this weekend. Has anyone done it before, looks a bit of a bastard to get to! My local veedub specialist is getting one in for me, but I still don't know how much they are. Any ideas?
  6. I've just found the leak on mine - looks like the thermostat housing. Any ideas on how much these are? GSF don't do them apparently, so i'm assuming main dealer only?
  7. Red VR6, tidy blonde driving it going round Armley Giratory gave each other a nod as she went past in other lane! Yesterday, about 7pm-ish.
  8. Nip down to your local friendly vw stealers, sweet talk the parts department and give them your reg number - they can check on the pooter when the car was last booked in for service etc, and the mileage is recorded. Will at least help you figure what it should be around, based on average mileage etc.
  9. Yep me to, I have had no mats in the car since i got it, so need to get hold of some soon! After standard looking Corrado mats, just better quality.
  10. I found with my golf that i could fit the standard VW jack under the sill (just) and jack it up enough to get the trolley jack underneath. Might be worth trying on the C Gixxer.
  11. You want my Mark1 Golf Cab 1.6gl of course!! LINKY!
  12. Metallic Blue 2lt valver i think. Had a little game of chase from the lights going on to the stanningley bypass top of armley, leeds. Smooth back panel, plate relocated to the bumper and FAT rims. Looks pretty nice. Reg no. A20 VWC, quality plate! Saw him again on the way back into Leeds this morning. Anyone on here?
  13. Thanks, I can relax about that now. Will keep an eye on the coolant level and see if any magically disappears again anytime soon!
  14. had a bit of a discussion about the smoking a while ago, but need to investigate further really. It blue smokes upon hard accelleration - only really noticeable in lower gears and whent he revs hit around 4k+ and yea, after a period of overrun down a hill and acceleration out of it, it plumes smoke out the back. I compression tested it and was fairly consistent accross all 6, bar number 2 which was a little lower than the rest (only did the test once, so not sure if that was just a slightly error reading... Engine has alledgedly done 88k now, was on 75 when i got it amost a year ago.
  15. I'm a little concerned at the temperature of my coolent. It generally sits around 80ish, creeps up to 90 or so sometimes, but then goes back around 80ish. I know the car had a new radiator just before I purchased it as the old one blew up so i'm not sure what if this is too low or not. Does this seem a rather low temp? Also, I had checked the level the other day as I had water in the passenger footwells (after hard hard rainy days, but just thought i'd double check the level in case it could be coolent) and it was maybe a centimeter or so below the minimum. Not sure why or where this coolent might have gone, but i topped it up and it doesn't seem to have gone down at all yet (1 week later anyway). Considering the cars burning oil and cloggin up number 1 spark plug every 5-6 weeks or so, I know i should be budgeting for a head rebuild minimum (crosses fingers) but i'd hoped to hang on for a bit until I have some more cash to get this spare head i've got reconditioned. Do I have anything to be concerned about?
  16. Brentacre are the only ones who gave me anywhere near a decent quote last year. £1550 full comp. (24y/o) I live in an F* area (total bottom of the scale!) and many of the companies I rang just told me they don't insure my area as soon as I started to reel off my postcode. Although, they do slap on a £500 excess - but I guess thats ok cos i'd only ever claim if the car actually got nicked. Not worth claiming for anything else cos they'll just rape it back from you over the next few years. Hope it goes down this year with 4 years no claims and i'll be 25 in april.
  17. Corrado luck strikes again. The front and back passenger footwells are soaking so I read up on the forum and thought i'd firstly make sure the drain holes in the front were clear. Simple enough job considering it was dark, cold and i'm still full of flu. Anyway, leant over to pop the bonnet and the catch goes. What a pain in the arse. I think the fucker knew I was coming to check it out and thought it'd just piss me off even more as well as smelling badly of rotten sound deadening. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. :x
  18. I'm now reaping the benefits of having my intellistart on the car =] Blip the keyfob in the general direction of the window and go out to a toasty warm car. It's great for when i'm running a little late, as it means the oil's up to temp as soon as i jump in the car so i can scream off into the sunrise without fear of damaging my engine. Everyones jealous too. heheh.

    VR6 - MPG

Hmmm, i usually only put in £30 at a time (Think it must be a phsycological thing to trick me into thinking i'm not spending so much on petrol!) and tend to get about 175 miles ish from that. Car is standard, but smokes like a goodun' when i floor it. 175 miles is when i drive mostly steady too :(
  20. all mark1 golf cabs were built by karman too, iirc.
  21. Yep, after weeks of me whinging about not being able to see anything and not having time to go get some from the stealers, my girl went down and ordered me some the other week. Absolutely thrilled to bits, can see everything now - next up, a new headlamp loom!
  22. Got mine back from the garage on saturday morning, they fit the new steering rack and did the tracking and everythings cushdy. The steering feels heavier now, which isn't a bad thing, I think it feels a little more solid now to be honest. Thing is, it drives exactly the same as before, no problems - just like I said in my last post that it feels a little skittish still. Is tracking and geometry the same thing? I thought track was toe in/toe out and other geometry alignment consisted of camber etc. Would having the "tracking" set cover all the different adjustments when they did the rack, or should I get the geometry laser aligned like mrbeige?
