This is my mk2. Colour is P5U Bright Blue Metallic. I don't think this was a Corrado colour though.

Sounds like it could be the battery. Also, did you check the main earth wire on the gearbox?

I washed both my cars on Sunday. That was about as energetic as I got this weekend. -
They have a bit more than that, closer to 150. It's all about the revs with them though. They go to 9500 or something like that.

It could be down as engine speed sensor but not as knock sensor, that's a seperate sensor. As regards what the cause of your problem is, it may not be the sensor itself that is the problem, but the connection to the sensor. Try and find the plug going onto the sensor, then try moving it around a bit with the engine running, if the engine stalls or the idle speed changes or fluctuates then you know you have a problem but whether or not anything happens try doing the following anyway before you go and buy the sensor. Take the plug off and clean the contacts and put some contact oil on them then put it back and see what happens. I've seen several cars with symptoms just like you have described that were cured by doing this.

I think the best type for the corrado would be the ones from the passat of around the same age. You know the ones that were body coloured? It think there was one that said 'turbodiesel' Don't know where you'd get one though....scrapyard??

I'm a mechanic and panel beater/spray painter but I packed it in and went back to college. Qualified as a mechanical engineer last year but now have a job doing mainly programming work....(don't ask, I don't know how it happened either) Still work some weekends in my dad's garage though...helps fund my VW obsession, and it's practice for when my golf needs some work! So if anyone knows of a G60 C for sale that needs some attention, let me know 8)

I use the autoglym extra gloss protection on my car too. It's the best I have found in the low-medium price range. But if you're after really good stuff (and don't mind spending a few quid) try Swissol or Zymol. Not cheap but that stuff really is the dogs 8)

New mounting needed I'd say. You can't get bushes for them as far as I know they are just made in one piece the pin going throught the middle should be held solidly in place within the rubber block.

It often happens that brake pads wear out faster on one side than the other. But this sounds more like a wheel bearing problem to me. If it was the brakes worn out it would be making a really bad tearing noise and you'd even see little bits of metal on the wheel instead of the normal black brake dust.

Download this file ISV_clean.doc These instructions are for a mk2 golf GTI but it should be the same for the G60.

Did you try cleaning the idle stabilisation valve? It worked for me on my mk2 golf when I had the same problem. I think the G60 has the same set up but someone should be able to confirm this??

Ok I'm 22 and since 1999 have owned 4 VWs prior to the 2 I own now: 1988 Mk Golf 1.6 diesel 1992 Vento 1.9 Turbodiesel 1993 Vento 1.9 diesel 1984 Mk2 Golf GTI 3dr And at the moment: 1983 Mk1 Golf 1.1 (hopefully will soon read 1983 golf mk1 G60) 1991 Mk2 Golf GTI 5dr And I also want a corrado (Grey G60, not too many mods), just in case anyone was wondering what I'm doing here! Some other non-vw cars: Honda Civic Vtec (kept getting nicked so had to go) Peugeot 306 (great to drive but not as reliable as a VW) Ford Mondeo (bought after I sold the 84 GTI and a surprisingly good car actually) BMW 318 (E36 type)

Well if it's there it's there for a reason but if it's loose and moving around the place then it's really upsetting the balance of the shaft so what I'd do is take it off and see it that makes a difference. It definitely won't make it worse anyway. On the other hand if it seems to be tight on the shaft then leave it alone.

Sounds like a driveshaft problem alright. Could well be that rubber counterweight that col_wan was talking about. If you can get under the car have a look at that and if it seems loose just cut it off.

Yeah but that won't look like steam. In a healthy engine if you put your hand over the oil filler hole you can feel air escaping. That's normal. It's when you can see the puffs coming out that you know there's a problem. It's caused by combustion gases blowing past the pistons on each firing stroke due to the poor compression caused by the wear on the bore/piston rings. A compression test will tell you the same thing.

If there is absolutely no feeling of changing gear then I think I've had that problem before with a mk3 golf after I fitted a clutch in it. It's something to do with the selector mechanism. I think there's some kind of a ball bearing type arrangement in the top of the box underneath where the cables go on. I think it slides up and down to let you know you've engaged the gear. I hit the top of the box a few times with a block of wood and went for a drive and it dropped back into place so I'm afraid I don't really know how to fix it. You could give that a go though!

It can be. If there is what looks like steam coming up out of the dipstick then it means there is bore and/or piston ring wear. However, most VW's (don't know about the VR6) can't blow back through the dipstick as the dipstick tube is submerged in oil in the sump so if there is nothing coming out when you take out the dipstick with the engine running it doesn't necessarily mean you are in the clear. So the best way to check is at the oil filler cap. Get the engine good and hot and open the filler cap with the engine idling. If you can't see anything coming out you are ok.
