  1. Most classic insurers only insure cars from 1994 (20 years old). There are some who insure less years, but prices go up. And yes, NCB usually not considered and not accrued. As underwriters changed, so can renewal declined as the terms and conditions changed :( For example, Peter James changed their T&C from insuring classics being 20years old to 30years old as stated on their website!!! But if u ring them then they usually insure your car for less years....as do SKY and Adrain Flux etc I can see maybe why you were declined insurance due to a different address. It could be underwriters do not want to be exposed to drivers using someone else s safer postcode to insure their cars. But having said that, u have been with Knott's for a number of years and its a shame that its true again, LOYALTY nowadays amount to nothing. Its probably not Knott's fault either, as their hands tied by the underwriters :( Still, At least u got a new insurer :) Now go and demand UNLIMITED mileage cover for free as I did !!! ;) And enjoy the Corrado as intended! :) Disclaimer: I am no expert at anything, just my tuppence ...
  2. OK I ain't doing ANYTHING until Chuggs fits his! ;)
  3. OK I confused what is flexi / body? Is it worth upgrading both front AND back to 288? How much improvement / difference is very stock?
  4. Excellent info/tips, Sean + Chuggs! :) Just been round to my garage. Garage confirms I have standard calipers and 288 disc would easily fit inside the aftermarket wheels. £150 looks tempting now ....;)
  5. Excellent! And welcome to the VR6 Gang (...soon :))
  6. Too much! LOL Just need to check what brakes i got with garage 1st ...
  7. Ok Too much - LOL Only calipers/carriers for now :)
  8. Hi Andy Garage said a couple of 100, maybe a 1000. So dont want to be 1/2 way through my Easter hols and stuck with no brakes :( Think by the time i meet up with VagHag to do brakes it ll be a couple of 100s already! PS: Thanks for continuing to look after my pennies ;)
  9. Thats not bad. So all u need for 288/pad is just new calipers/carriers?
  10. I did asked garage - he said standard sizes... As i need to know coz i will be replacing pads/discs ... Thats my worried ... Ordering parts then find they not fit :( :( :(
  11. Cheers Chuggs! :) Will enquire with purpletom - like to get more out of car if costs a "little" more ;)
  12. Cheers Chuggs If need bigger calipers - then i think i leave it (more costs). Out of interest: Any idea how much bigger calipers (new / used) for 288 are?
  13. Ok Big, braided, Brembo - i heard are all good things to a car Hmmm I will enquire too how much are 288mm discs are over standard ones. Will pads have to be bigger then? Would my existing calipers ok for then? Why not 288 on rears too? As my wheels are aftermarket, I may ask my garage whats the biggest they can fit behind them ..
  14. Thanks Tiger! Learnt something new each day :)
  15. Just a quick update... Specialist garage said: 1. Water pump seems new 2. Will do clutch/brake fluid as well (since replacing the Clutch Slave Cylinder) - Brake fluid is the clutch fluid??? 3. Disc s / pads low - 1000 miles left (standard sizes) Think bill is still going up ...eeek! :(
  16. Lol U sound like me, mate :) Can't wait to try to replace mine soon - eeeek!
  17. Cheers Chris :) Just found this - wish I read this BEFORE I bought my VR6... http://www.hemmings.com/hsx/stories/2013/09/01/hmn_buyers_guide1.html
  18. Interesting read here : http://www.hemmings.com/hsx/stories/2013/09/01/hmn_buyers_guide1.html Remember when my car couldnt shift into any gear? Is this the cause?
  19. Lol I was only on the CRX forum for say 4months. But due to change of circumstances had to sell her :( It was real nippy car! Advertised on the forum, sold in 24hrs, gone in 48 :( As my other car sat in garage rusting, And the unpractical CRX sold, Needed another classic to fill the void til August... Was looking at Toyota Corolla GTi - but none I can afford. Lost out on a Golf GTi 8v, Then spotted my Corrado - and WOW :) So what's your story on here? :)
  20. Er My garage tried everywhere :( Even VW Heritage out of stock. Struggled with the flange seal too - in the end garage tracked the last one in stock from VW..
