As I dig out my car bucket list from time to time, to see what childhood hot cars I lustred back then, But, never had or justified throughout my adult driving life until recently... ...The special age one reaches mid way in life (feels like when one were legally allow to drive for the 1st time) and the urge to buy a bright RED sports car started my path to fulfilling my ownership of cars on my bucket list... After a couple of sexy classic Jap popup lights cars, (And Yes my 1st classic was a bright RED sports car :)), I really wanted the renown Peugeot 205 1.9 GTi or the VW Golf Mk2 GTi 8v, Though the other hot Jap hatches were still very tempting - RX7 Gen3 - reliability iffy Corolla GTi - no good examples Daihatsu Gtti - none exist? Mazda 323 4wheel drive turbo - non existent? So a hunt was on for a 205 or a Golf. As I can't fix my own cars, The Golf reliability won - and I was set to bid and win one Sunday... ...But As fate had it that golf went £1000 above my budget! Eeek! But then a little wary of the teeny 115bhp on the Golf, I wanted a bit more ooomph - didn't really fancy the 16v Golf for a bit more faster... ...WAIT! What's this? A VW Corrado??? Looks familiar, but what is it? Looked in my bucket list - it wasn't on my list?!!! WHY? This GORGEOUS white looking hot hatch I went to see. Yes, it wasn't as mint as the picture on eBay, Drives WOW! That's it I AM WANTING ONE! Do I buy this one, bit over priced??? Sod it, only have one shot in life! Bought! Even though the Corrado broke down 20mins after leaving the seller s house. Sat in a specialist garage for almost 2 weeks now... ...that one week driving her...I am STILL smitten with it! ... But, I still ask myself "How in the world this amazing looking, performing and every driver s wet dreams hot hatch - DID I EVER MISSED the Corrado on my bucket list???"

Yes Stealth is on 1/3 Think vag-hag meant 8th or 15th As 1/3 would be too short notice to get parts?
-
Huge Thanks again! :)
-
No rush! I will also asked garage if they checked everything too. So if they say sparks are quite new then we can leave those! So we can just concentrate on bits that need doing on the day ;) PM me your number and we will discuss sometime next week (or when i deffo have my car back)! Then decide which Sunday best thereafter ;) Is that ok with u?

Thanks :) Bought a socket set at 1/2 price from Halfords last christmas working on the Prelude :) AND only bought the set JUST to take the front fogs out - EXPENSIVE set of tools i ever bought :( At Halfords now .. Cheap?
-
HairyArse! As i was to be able to service my car in future (be it the Corrado or my Prelude etc), Shall i invest in some basic generic tools? 1. Oil filter tool? 2. Sparks tool? 3. Whatelse for basic service (oil/filter/spark/pads/discs)? Thanks :)

Tis what I WORRIED about :-( Either rotten, rusted, seized, worked, damaged and then Other things starts to go wrong ....could be a can of worms - eeeek!

Some really good value for money parts supplier from Seanl82 :) >>> Wayne, I got my spark plugs from ebay as they were linked to me from another forum member and were the cheapest I could find. NGK BKR5EKU, and were £20.54 delivered for the 6, from Automotive parts distribution ltd according to the invoice. Again, I bought them through ebay though. Oil, I use Fuchs titan pro race 10w 50 from opie oils. Its certainly not cheap, but is one of the best oils on the market, and makes a noticeable improvement/reduction in engine noise. Oil filter can be had by most major motor factors, but I'd recommend their "premium" brand rather than the cheaper ones. PAS fluid, make sure you use the VW green type fluid. I got mine from AVS Spares. DO NOT use ATF, or any other standard type steering fluid that is red/pink in colour. I'm not massively in the know about the reasons why, but these cars seriously don't like it! We're talking almost instant failure and leaking of pumps and racks in some cases! Brake fluid is fine, so any decent brand dot 4 fluid is sufficient. Make sure you tell the garage to bleed the clutch and abs pump as well, and emphasise that they bleed the brake master cylinder. This is where 99% of people fail if they don't know the car, when trying to bleed the braking system. If there is air in the master cylinder, you can pump 5 litres of fluid through the system, and still not have a solid pedal. Aftermarket air filter, get a K&N cleaning kit, follow the instructions, and be careful not to put too much oil on it as the oil kills MAFs pretty sharpish. Apart from inspection and greasing routines, thats all thats really required mate. >>>

Done! :)

Thanks :) :) :) U are 36miles away - also need to figure out childcare. What day u thinking? I can't do Saturdays. Oil/filter already done by garage. Its ALL the other major bits .... But we do NOT have to do it all - as will take more than one day? 1. Sparks 2. HT Leads 3. Fuel filter 4. PAS fluid 5. Gearbox fluid 6. Brake fluid 7. Pads / disc s Anything else?

Do a search on here! Better be safe than sorry!
-
Jotting all this down in my "Wayne s bible for his Corrado" as we speak or touch-type! ;)
-
Yay! :) Know any cheap 0% balance transfers? ;) LOL
-
Thanks again, Sean! Phew - was REALLY worried about the sparks, As that Fifth Gear Jason Plato video about the Corrado said he paid something like £73 for sparks - eeeek! He also paid £165 for HT leads?!!!! Any idea where I can buy cheaper ? :)
-
HUGE thanks, Andy! :) I know I would if I can, and u got a workshop too ;) Its a bit of a detour, and this time there is no 1/2 way hotel (Birmingham), Me and kids straight down to from north to south :( Might still popover for a group PIC and cruise sometime Easter. If not - then over Summer hols ;) PS: I just ordered that fault scanner u recommended :)
-
Cheers Sean, bud :) Massively grateful for all that info :) Have only heard good things about OPIE :) PAS "specialist" fluid brings back memories of ONLY USE A CERTAIN COLOUR FOR COOLANT - hence I was hesitant to add water to mine when my car was low on coolant :( OK. Might take car back to specialist to replace brake fluid than a cheap garage or do it myself ... Cheers again, Sean!

Jim! Me, u think the same! ;) I sold my 2010 Skoda Superb fully loaded (self park, satnav, heated front screen etc) to finance now a 1989 Honda Prelude + 1994 VW Corrado. Yes the Superb was comfy, had all the toys, reliable nothing went wrong during my ownership - but it was worth £1000s less each year... Now my 2cars bought for less, insured similar amount, yes I pay more tax and more petrol - but they put a huge smile on my face every time I sit in them :) And best of all, If u watch your pennies - u can sell for similar money u bought it for ;) Though, I think I may struggle with the Corrado though - lol
