In July "Car Mechanics", "Tips from the Trade" has a para on the Corrado's door handle. The columnist says "These VW handles do have a weakness.." Well spotted!

"One of worst things known to man, these." (AA man who came to try and sort out my original alarm. Had the accursed thing removed for good. Peace, perfect peace.) Of course, we do have the advantage of lower car crime up here.

kev I can do you an "s" for free if you are desperate, either painted or unpainted.

Probably "the only Storm in the village" yesterday. (In a Welsh accent please.)

Pic of replica Storm badge in place. :D Painting is a lot of fun. :x You spray with black then add the red on the letters. The red overlaps here and there - you paint black over them The black overlaps you paint red over them - the red overlaps you paint black in again.......  grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Got there in the end. Yes, I know you can see a bit overlapping if you put your nose 30 centimetres away from it!!!! Thanks to coullstar and others for tips. Clearly, some kind of masking will aid the red font painting. I last did art at school in about 1960 - am not in touch with any better modern techniques you lot probably got in primary school! Sticky on 2 sides tape from Maplins is as good as original by the way - unless it dries out and badge falls off in a few months. Will report back. I have a couple of spares half finished - could be persuaded to complete them, but labour costs of hundreds of pound incurred so far will make price unrealistic. :D

With this kind of theft in mind, a couple of days ago I replaced red "Storm" badge with replica I made. Took ages to complete - not nearly as good as original but no one will be able to tell difference from more than a couple of feet away. Experimenting with a couple more. -
supercharged said Entirely agree. Having hand painted and sprayed bits of cars, etc, for decades (mostly with rubbish end result) the best way to deal a small item like the badge is to remove it (dead easy) and use a spray paint suitable for exterior plastic. Follow instructions on can, I can assure you this is important. Use at correct temperature - clean/degrease item first with solvent which does not attack the plastic.

Anyone ever considered a TDi engine conversion?

samm_cvr6 said It is Levon Helm drummer/vocalist in The Band. Pic is from the movie "The Last Waltz". Yes, funny thing about the Pug 205 diesel, we have had it from new - took delivery on the day 1st Gulf War started, over 14 years ago. There is hardly a spot of rust on its Topaz blue metallic paintwork, even though it has sat outside for most of the time. Garages certainly must be bad for cars that are used regularly. Every time we get in it, even after cars like the VR6, we find there is a remarkable feeling of familiarity and security about this vehicle. Driver visibility must be about as good as you can get. This car does everything you ask it to (within reason.) I believe the French got it as near perfect as is possible at the first attempt. The amusing thing is that they replaced it with an inferior model when its sales were still going strong. We will be sorry to see it go. I reckon it is worth the equivalent of a £3k used car, but the market value must be only around £1200 at most now. Maybe we are stuck with it! Would certainly never buy a modern Peugeot, however. -
supercharged said Storm badges sent to him? Sorry if I am in thicko mode.

Had a diesel for 14 years - cannot relate to this at all David. Have never worn the gloves and never had much smell. And, no, I am not a stinky person anyway. :2gunfire: I think the rapid development and improvement of the modern turbodiesel is truly staggering. I will be definitely be getting one after the Corrado and Peug 205 go. -
corradostorm said Sorry Cstorm, above not clear - what is it you can do for a fiver?

I have been trying to make the "Storm" badge at the back of car. I am using original as a mould. It is very difficult - I have already spent 3 days on it and thrown away loads of messed up stuff and gone back to the drawing board again and again. :mad2: Painting the red on the top face of the badge without getting it down the sides, etc is a real problem. As is getting a good mould, as is getting good material for cast, as is getting a clean cast out of mould. I could go on. Maybe it would be cheaper to buy one - any quote from anyone who owns one? I know about the daft £100 plus price on ebay. Anyone tried making this before? SORRY guys - IGNORE this - I have just seen joebloggsvr69, etc thread on making badges. I am making one as temporary replica and keeping original off car until I sell. I am semi retired so in theory have time to attempt this. I am getting fed up now that the sun is out again, though. 8) I have got 2 that will look Ok from a distance. Any market for them if I were to make more? In no way can they be regarded as durable and smoothly finished like 3m's original. From a distance you could be fooled, though.

Awesome is far away from Glasgow, Joe?? Not that Im needing anything at the moment, but just out of interest what logistics did you use to get your car done down there?

Nobody else done the bike rack thing then? He will not be chuffed if he has been so exceptionally dumb.
-
My eldest forgot he had bike on roof rack the other night. Drove into Sainsbury's car park, girder type barrier knocked bike flying. "How did my bike fall off roof?" he said as he saw it in rear-view mirror. Remembered barrier when he got out car. As he examined damage, tall white van screeched to halt just before barrier - nearly another! My lad's car is Lupo GTi - he will be getting damage to doorway fixed later at approved bodyshop. Needs new front wheel for bike, too. Glad damage is so minor - suppose you can get a lot worse? Any forum members got anecdotes of this type mishap?

Thanks for your contributions, all. I have removed the badge with hair drier heat and credit card. Am trying to make mould. That is difficult enough but the black and red painting looks even more tricky. Might end up throwing it all in the bin and only stick badge back on when selling car.

(1) I take it this, allegedly sought after, plastic bit on the rear of the C is just glued on - not fixed with lugs like the "Corrado" ? (2) Anyone on here had their's stolen and was there any paintwork damage? (2) Also, does anyone know what the "storm" emblem cost before it became unavailable at, say, the VAG dealers and GPC?
