All a pain in the butt at times in both programs. Top gear better, though. Liked Charlie Boorman - guest on 5th gear - what a gent - as is his father. Have any of you seen "The long way round" with him and Ewan McGregor? Both guys are a lot better than most "celebrities" - Personally, I rate them both very highly - a credit to their generation.

mr.ots said Yup. The one-owner-from-new VR6 which came up for sale at a garage seven miles from here when I had the money just happened to be a storm - that is why i have one. Had a non-storm VR6 with the same pedigree been available at lower cost I would have gone for that one. Circumstances and opportunity, rather than choice, can mean you have a storm rather than a non-storm. The market dictates that the storm will be worth more than than the non-storm - thats not any individual's fault but merely a result of the nature of humans. It is stupid, but dont blame those who own storms for the situation. £1500-2000 IS a nonsense just for a couple of badges.

As a wind up, stick a Storm badge on it. Know how much you love them!

Sometimes its not worth doing it yourself....
craigowl replied to Andy665's topic in General Car Chat
Good man. Andy665! As Groucho Marx said "the best thing about having money is being able to pay people to do things you'd rather not do." I can confirm that as you get older you feel less inclined to crawl about under/around cars in the cold, getting dirty, breaking your finger nails, scraping the skin off your knuckles, taking all day to do a job that someone who is used to doing it can do in a couple of hours for a few quid. Having enough quids can be a problem, though. -
blackcat said Must be great to be a charming female and be able to get the boys to scurry around doing tricky things for you! Good luck in getting it fixed, anyway. 8)

Young rixy Try not to let an old car run "very low on fuel". I expect you probably know this, but all sorts of muck in a 10-year old tank can get drawn into fuel filter and beyond if you are unlucky. Good luck in getting sorted, anyway.

Glad you are a convert conleycrew3! Best regards.

Foglights are only supposed to be use when visibility is less than 100 metres in thick fog or snow. Visibility as low as this is not as common as people think. As has been said before, IMO people who feel they have to have foglights on in an attempt to appear cool, need to seek treatment for their low self esteem. Also, as it can irritate other motorists, it is very anti social, plus, the glass lenses on the C tend to crack due to poor design and they are very expensive to replace. :x OK - Who still wants to be a prat?
-
Not the dumb foglights saga again - :x This time from Plimuff

I find the C VR6's standard brakes with stainless steel hoses perfectly good. Cannot say I have experience of really modern performance cars, though.

For anyone interested I went into my local VW dealer at Grangemouth yesterday re title of this post. They are called "Central Volkswagen" and have just taken over from "Western Grangemouth VW". 1 - Front VR6 badge (silver) no longer available (from Oct 2004 I think) 2 - Ordered 4 BBS centre caps (part no 1H060171BBXF) for Solitudes. They should be in on Tuesday at £34.96, including VAT and 10% discount for CCGB card. Good on new parts manager to agree to discount as Paul, my previous contact, has moved up in the world to Mercedes along the road! Had Soliturds refurbed (£205 at Wheel Services, Plains near Airdrie) so original 10.5 year-old centre caps, which were going a bit blurry, have to go.

When I got my 95K VR6, power steering fluid was near "min" when cold. Despite having been serviced and checked as Skoda Approved Vehicle (no jokes please, they will be out of date, Skoda are a lot better!). I just bought correct fluid from VAG dealer, (be sure to do this) removed as much of old fluid as poss and topped up (system has to be at working temperature to be reading level at "normal" mark). No problems at all.

Ta stevemac knew there must be a plausible reason.

Magnesium burns readily with a blindingly hot flame. Not good in a crash - I would not be surprised if it were illegal on the public road. Still, they let us carry around loads of petrol, dont they?
-
On my VR6, oil temp is dashes -- until temp reaches 50C when digits appear. My routine is to have MFA set on oil temp reading as soon as I have started, then switch it to mpg (thrifty old fool that I am) when it reaches about 80C then speed up to 45mph on motorways, etc.

Clearly he is not a VW buff - more a VW duffer.

Maplins have it, too.

steve_16v said Yes. My Corrado came with a set with one spoiler. Probably normal for some reason?? Anyone know?

If they were sneaky about the bonnet release, I wouldnt go there again. Just as I will not buy anything Goodridge, Vauxhall or Seiko again, to name but three. The customer should be king. Most money we work hard for, dont give it to those that do not merit it.

IMO - Passat or Octavia Tdi lead the pack.

VR6 crank sensor probs ** Now Dastek/Unichip probs!
craigowl replied to dr_mat's topic in Engine Bay
dr_mat said Make sure you get ones with the right ends - I was sent wrong ones despite specifying what the car was. You may have to give details/photo of the caliper type to get the correct kind. A mechanic can fit the wrong kind "OK" and you may not know the difference, but my expert local garage man knew the seating of the ones first issued was technically wrong and insisted I got the correct version. Goodridge were not very helpful afterwards when I described the saga but supplying agent Ian Goldie of C.A.M. developments (Potters Bar) was extremely so. I got his number from Star performance up here, but Ian says he is not normally the supplier to individual customers. Tel 08700 780517 mailto:[email protected] - http://www.camauto.com. Hope this may help you from having a problem. Iain -
If it has to have looks as special as the C, IMO that leaves out the Focus, the Hondas, Golf R32 and Clio. Leaves Datsun  350Z for me.

Charming photo. :)
